Most Anticipated Release Date
Apple MacBook Air M2 sale could commence from July 15 of 2022. Apple has launched its new consumer laptop at WWDC 22 with a new M2 chip along with the new 13-inch MacBook Pro. While the MacBook Pro with the M2 chip is already available for purchase in stores, Apple said that the M2 MacBook Air will be available for sale sometime in July. And now, based on the latest tips, we have a release date.
However, the company did not announce the pre-order or sale date at the launch event, but a new report claims that the MacBook Air M2 could be available for purchase starting July 15. As cited by MacRumors, Apple might open a MacBook Air M2 pre-order window on July 8. Although Apple has not confirmed the release dates yet, it only confirmed at WWDC 22 that the new affordable M2 MacBook Air chip will be available in July.
Features of M2 MacBook Air
Unlike the 13-inch MacBook Pro, 2022’s MacBook Air will come with a completely new design with flatter edges similar to the more expensive 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. However, it will have a much thinner body. The new laptop features a 13.6-inch display that goes edge-to-edge and has a notch on top with a built-in 1080p webcam. Both the 13-inch MacBook Pro and 2022 MacBook Air are equipped with Apple’s new M2 chip, which is about 20% faster compared to the entry-level M1 chip.
M2 also enables the new MacBook Air to support up to 24GB of unified RAM, as well as up to 2TB of storage. In addition to two USB-C ports, the M2 MacBook Air also has a MagSafe connector for charging.
Besides the traditional Silver and Space Gray colors, the new MacBook Air also comes in Midnight (which is a very dark blue) and Starlight (which looks more like champagne). The new M2 MacBook Air comes with an all-new design. Its flat frame looks similar to the higher-end MacBook Pro models. Moreover, Apple has packed a new M2 chip with 8 CPU cores and up to CPU cores. According to latest rumors, the new chip claims to offer 18% faster performance and up to 35% more powerful GPU.
When to expect the M2 MacBook Air Pro delivery?
The most notable feature of the M2 MacBook Pro is that customers who purchase it might face some shipment delays. At this time, except for the base model, any other M2 MacBook Pro configuration is back-ordered for late July.
However, it is unclear at this point what has been causing the delays in M2 MacBook Pro shipments. The reason behind these might be (probably) related to memory and storage component shortages. In fact, such component shortage will also likely affect shipments of the new MacBook Air.
It is worth noting that Apple claims that the MacBook Air M2 offers up to 18 hours of battery life on a single charge. The 8-core GPU variant comes with a 30W charger, whereas the 10-core GPU variant with 512GB SSD comes with a 35W dual USB Type-C adapter. Users will have the option to upgrade to a 67W USB Type-C fast charger as an alternative to the 35W Dual USB Type-C adapter.
