Perplexity AI has launched its AI-powered browser, Comet, on Android. According to Gadgets360, Perplexity listed the Comet app on Android in September 2025, but only allowed users to pre-register.
The launch of Comet AI browser on Android means the app will be installed automatically on mobile devices of users who pre-registered. Unregistered users can search for the app on Play Store, download, and install it manually. The Android version of the browsers features an AI assistant and desktop features.
Perplexity AI first launched the Comet browser on desktop in June 2025. At the time, the browser was accessible to subscribers who pay $200 per month. The AI firm later expanded access to all users in October 2025. Early this month, Perplexity started testing the Comet browser on Android with subscribers.
The Comet AI browser is available on Google Play Store for free. Users can access most of its features, irrespective of subscription tier. However, Perplexity has limited how often free users can use the AI assistant or agentic features. Max and Pro subscribers will have higher access to Comet browser AI capabilities.
Perplexity’s Comet AI browser becomes the first major release on Android. Tech giants have started adding AI features to their browsers. In September 2025, Google added Gemini AI features to the Chrome browser for its users in the U.S. However, Perplexity AI stands out for making its browser available on smartphones.
Here are important points to note about Comet browser:
Perplexity AI brings the Comet browser to Android days after it introduced a free agentic shopping tool called “Buy With Pro”, which can detect customer intent and personalize shopping results.
On the Android version of the Comet browser, the AI assistant appears at the bottom of the page. Tool and URL bars also appear at the bottom, as opposed to the top. The browser window closes when a user swipes downwards.
However, the browser does not clear session history when a user closes and reopens the AI assistant window. Perplexity AI plans to add a conversational agent to the Comet browser before the end of 2025.
The AI company also plans to add a password manager and quick actions to the browser. Only users with Android version 12 or later can download the Comet browser app on the Google Play Store.
