AI startup Perplexity AI preparing to launch Comet browser on Android. According to Business Standard, the AI firm is already sending invites for its AI browser on Android. Users can register their interest on the Comet browser website or Google Play Store to join the Perplexity Comet browser waitlist.
While sharing the news, CEO Aravind Srinivas said that invitations for Comet AI browser for Android version will target a few early testers. Perplexity said it will prioritize regular users and paying customers of the AI-powered search engine.
“Comet Android early invites are going out. If you want to maximize your chances for early access and shaping how the future of mobile browsing looks like, it all comes down to your Perplexity Android usage and Pro/Max user status. More invites will go out soon,” Srinivas said in a post shared on X.
Initially, the AI firm had hinted at making the Comet browser available on iOS as it seeks to stand out in the AI-powered browser space. Perplexity AI is launching an Android version of its Comet AI browser at a time when startups are racing to embed agentic AI features in browsers, turning them into workspaces that can summarize pages and perform actions for users.
In July 2025, Microsoft reinvented its web browser, Edge after it introduced Co-pilot Mode.
Perplexity AI is seeking to position Comet as the browser for agentic search that’s capable of handling complicated tasks with minimal user intervention. The browser is designed to run on Perplexity’s AI-powered search engine and generates results from different sources across the internet.
Key features of the Comet AI Browser:
In September 2025, Google sought to boost its competitiveness against startups like Perplelexity and OpenAI by adding Gemini AI to its Chrome browser for U.S. users. Chrome continues to dominate the Android market, holding a 60.45% share of the mobile browser market according to SimilarWeb data, the browser holds.
But Perplexity has been moving gradually to challenge this dominance in the browser market in recent months. In October 2025, the AI firm partnered with Mozilla to bring Perplexity AI to the Firefox browser in a bid to make search more conversational.
With its Comet browser, Perplexity is seeking to leverage the power of AI to lure users into switching from the Chrome browser.
