Google has launched Pixel Care+, an extensive protection service designed specifically for Made by Google devices, according to Google. This new program aims to provide complete peace of mind for users who want to safeguard their smartphones against unexpected damage and technical issues.
The tech giant has been working on this protection service for months, responding to customer feedback about the need for better device coverage. Many Pixel users previously had to rely on third-party insurance providers or expensive manufacturer warranties for protection.
Google’s entry into device protection represents a significant expansion of its customer service offerings. The company aims to create a seamless experience that covers everything from accidental damage to technical support.
Pixel Care+ device protection program offers comprehensive coverage that goes beyond typical smartphone insurance. Pixel Care+ gives Pixel users top-notch protection, covering common repairs like screen or battery replacements for $0. It also includes accidental damage coverage and free upgraded shipping on replacements, with next-day delivery available. The plan is offered in partnership with Asurion, a well-known device protection provider.
Accidental damage protection covers cracked screens, water damage, and other mishaps that happen during daily use. The program also includes coverage for mechanical breakdowns that occur after the standard warranty period expires.
One standout feature is the inclusion of battery replacement services. Many smartphone users struggle with declining battery performance after extended use, and Google’s program addresses this common concern.
The service also provides access to expert technical support from Google-trained Pixel specialists. Users can get help with software issues, setup questions, and troubleshooting guidance directly from the company.
Pixel Care+ device protection plan comes in different tiers to meet varying user needs and budgets. Google recognizes that not every customer requires the same level of protection for their device. For example, coverage for a Pixel 10 is $10 a month or $199 for two years. Amongst all of these changes, Alphabet also decided to shift Pixel production in India due to the increased U.S. tariffs on Vietnamese imports.
A major selling point is the Pixel Care+ zero-repair cost feature for covered incidents. Subscribers won’t pay deductibles or additional fees when they need repairs for qualifying damage or issues.
This approach simplifies the repair process and removes financial barriers that might prevent users from fixing their devices. Many traditional insurance programs require significant out-of-pocket expenses even for covered repairs.
Pixel Care+ launches in the U.S. on Wednesday for new eligible devices, including the Pixel 8 and newer, Pixel Watch 2 and newer, Pixel Tablet, Fitbit Ace LTE, Fitbit Versa 4, Fitbit Sense 2, Fitbit Charge 6, and Fitbit Inspire 3.
The plan can be added within 60 days of purchase. Claims can be filed through the Google Store by scheduling a repair or directly in the My Pixel app.
