Global electronics company Jabil is preparing to expand its AirPods manufacturing by establishing a new plant in Tamil Nadu, India. The move fits with Apple’s continued effort to move portions of its supply chain out of China and deepen its presence in India, as reported by DigiTimes Asia.
The facility will concentrate on manufacturing AirPods enclosures, improving Jabil’s assembly operations, and helping Apple’s increasing need for locally manufactured components.
The upcoming facility will concentrate on assembling Jabil AirPods and manufacturing their enclosures while expanding the company’s manufacturing presence in India. The expansion will double Jabil’s existing operations in Pune while establishing new manufacturing facilities in the southern region of India through this upcoming facility.
The new facility will create hundreds of jobs while establishing India as a central location in Apple’s global supply chain network. The move strengthens Jabil’s dedication to help extend Apple’s initiative for relocating its manufacturing activities beyond Chinese borders.
Apple has been gradually escalating its dependence on India for manufacturing, with companies such as Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron already producing iPhones locally. With Jabil now moving wearable production to India, it indicates that Apple’s focus is expanding beyond smartphones.
The intention to increase AirPods manufacturing in India shows the way Apple is not only diversifying but also leveraging the country’s expanding tech community. India’s high population, supportive policies, and government promises of incentives under the PLI (Production-Linked Incentive) scheme make it a preferred manufacturing location.
The Jabil expansion in Tamil Nadu could become a milestone for the state’s electronics manufacturing ambitions. Tamil Nadu has been emerging as a preferred destination for high-end electronics and component manufacturing in India, offering strong infrastructure and skilled labor.
The move is also aligned with the state’s recent efforts to attract large-scale investments in the tech hardware sector. With companies like Jabil bringing more advanced assembly and enclosure work, Tamil Nadu could soon become a major player in the global wearables supply chain.
Jabil’s move to expand AirPods manufacturing in India underscores increasing faith in India’s ability to deliver quality and volume for international technology brands. With more Apple suppliers moving up their production to India, the nation is gradually emerging as a solid alternative to classic manufacturing titans.
This also creates possibilities for Indian companies to integrate into the global value chain, making parts, logistics, and support services. The Jabil’s AirPods manufacturing expansion is a gain for the company, but also for India’s larger story in tech manufacturing.
