When it comes to security, there are numerous attacks that target the edge. Implanting malware, DDoS attacks, credential theft, phishing and vulnerability exploits have become commonplace. DDoS attacks have increased in intensity and threaten to outstrip traditional defenses that focus on providing enough network bandwidth to withstand the attack. In fact, the largest-ever DDoS attack occurred in late April 2019, peaking at 652 million packets per second2 — five times larger than the famous Github attack in PPS. This is the highest volume ever publicly disclosed. Spear phishing attacks have likewise become ubiquitous, stealing employees’ credentials and targeting executives who unknowingly download malware that gives attackers access to sensitive data. In fact, in just three months in 2018, credential-stealing phishing attacks increased more than 140%.
