Health Information Management (HIM) has never been easy. Hundreds of different types of patient and provider correspondence pour in from different sources in different formats, both digital and paper. Each document must then go through a series of time-consuming manual processes to match and link them to specific patients and claims in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
This puts unnecessary burdens on staff and opens the door to delays and errors. It’s vital that patient information can be integrated into patient charts in a timely manner. This allows for effective case management for follow-ups and has a direct impact on patient and care provider satisfaction. Another time critical requirement concerns responding to Release of Information (ROI) and audit requests from Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurers.
Manual processes can act as an impediment to this timely integration and response and is still an all-too-common situation in the industry.
