YouTube Music Faces Backlash for Recommending AI-Generated Songs

In Focus

  • YouTube Music users say algorithm is pushing AI songs to their feeds
  • Users claim features like “not interested” and “dislike” have not fixed the issues
  • AI-generated songs have been spotted on Spotify and Amazon Music

AI-generated content is spreading fast, and YouTube Music users have flagged it in content recommendations. According to Gadgets360, several people have raised concerns over the growing number of YouTube Music AI recommendations they receive on their feeds. Users also claim that the “dislike”, “not interested”, and thumb down features haven’t helped in stopping the recommendations.

YouTube Users Express Frustration Over AI Slop

Users, particularly paid subscribers, have turned to social media platforms to express their frustration over the YouTube Music algorithm pushing unwanted AI songs to their feeds.
They claim the music recommendation algorithm issue is making it harder to discover new artists through playlists and recommended feeds on YouTube Music.

”Opened YTM today and six out of ten new recommendations were AI slop. The other day every other song in my auto-generated playlist was AI slop. Clicking ‘I’m not interested’ nor thumbing them down really makes no difference, as it only applies to this one specific song, not the ‘artist’,” one YouTube user wrote on Reddit.

Some users reported that tactics like erasing watch or search history, clearing cache, and restarting the app did not solve the issue. YouTube Music faces backlash over generic songs recommendations barely a month after the company introduced the personalized recap experience feature in India.

AI Content Appears on Other Music Platforms Too

AI music flooding recommendations is not limited to YouTube Music. Several users say the issue appears on other music platforms, including Amazon Music and Spotify. Tech companies have developed AI tools that enable users to create content within seconds.

Recently, Google had to limit Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro usage by free-tier subscribers after it experienced a surge following the launch of the two models. Platforms like Udio and Suno have accelerated production of AI-generated content. They offer AI tools that allow users to create songs in different genres using text prompts.
Most listeners have said AI-generated songs lack depth. Generic music is gaining prominence at a time when AI companies are facing legal action over copyright infringement. Last year, Reddit sued Perplexity AI in New York for data scrapping.

How Do Users Identify AI-Generated Music?

Many users are frustrated by the absence of disclaimers on AI-generated content. Knowing which artists upload generic songs is also a challenge for many YouTube Music users. But, there are those who have found a way to identify AI-generated songs on YouTube Music without disclaimers.

Some users say they flag AI content through band names that appear generic or cover art that look suspicious. Others say vocals in generic songs are moderately processed.

Humans do those as well, but the mid-generic humans usually don’t have production that sounds this polished unless they use AI to fix that,” One user explained as reported by Mint.

Another user noted that some songs created using AI tend to have weird vocals that ordinally people would not sing the same way.
