Meta Brings AI-Powered Message Drafting, Storage Management Tools to WhatsApp

In Focus

  • The message drafting analyzes chat history and suggests responses
  • Meta first introduced the tool in 2025
  • ‘Writing Help’ and other WhatsApp AI updates roll out globally

WhatsApp is introducing an AI-powered tool that analyzes user conversations and suggests relevant replies, TechCrunch reported. The WhatsApp AI-generated responses tool reflects Meta’s aggressive push to embed its AI assistant directly into private messaging. The messaging platform is also rolling out several other features, including tools for editing photos using Meta AI, drafting messages, and freeing up storage space.

The ‘Writing Help’ Feature Crafts Texts for Users

WhatsApp’s AI message drafting feature, ‘Writing Help’ assists users in crafting texts. Users can also use it to rephrase, adjust the tone, and proofread their messages before sending. WhatsApp said this update is designed to generate smart message suggestions with Meta AI.

Meta introduced the feature for the first time in August 2025. While the WhatsApp replies will be AI-generated, Meta says user chats will remain private. The feature is easy to access. Users should tap the chat bar, click on the stickers icon in the typing section, and tap the sparkledust pencil icon to use the feature.

By introducing the ‘Writing Help’ tool, Meta is hoping that WhatsApp users will prefer its in-app technology as opposed to tools such as ChatGPT. This might be a challenge because, ordinarily, people prefer to send authentic conversations with friends and family, as opposed to sharing AI-generated texts.

WhatsApp introduces the ‘Writing Help’ tool as it continues to test a scheduled message feature in iOS beta. Once complete, the feature will enable users to compose messages to send at a chosen date and time.

AI Tools Ease Storage Management

Besides automating real-time conversation replies, WhatsApp is making it easier to manage storage by allowing users to locate and delete large files within individual chats. This means they can remove unnecessary content without deleting entire conversations. For instance, users can remove videos while leaving their chats intact.

The new photo editing tool allows users to improve images using Meta AI in WhatsApp. This eliminates the need to external apps before sharing. The tool is very similar to the features in Google Photos, where AI-powered editing tools are now standard.

By introducing a photo editing tool, Meta appears to be turning WhatsApp into a versatile content creation platform, rather than just a messaging service. Additionally, users can move chat history from iOS to Android. Users also have the option of having two accounts logged in at the same time on iOS.

Previously, this was only possible on Android. Meta has also upgraded stickers on the WhatsApp platform, enabling the application to suggest options such as emojis as users type their messages.

What Does New WhatsApp Feature Mean for Meta

The latest WhatsApp features align with Meta’s broader strategy of positioning its AI assistant as a cross-platform tool. Already, the social media giant has integrated Meta AI into Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.

Earlier this month, Meta added AI-powered features to Facebook Marketplace, enabling sellers to list more items and for shoppers to find what they need faster. WhatsApp represents the most valuable integration due to its wide user base of more than 2 billion people and its role as a primary communication platform across global markets.
