Verified Profiles Lose Legacy Blue Ticks on Twitter

All of us already knew this was coming based on Twitter boss Elon Musk’s tweet on 12th April saying, “Final date for removing legacy Blue checks is 4/20”. As edgy as it sounds, it wasn’t just a joke.

And, there are deeper concerns than just fame and validation.

Elon Musk’s Decisions with Twitter & The Repercussions of Losing Legacy Blue Ticks

After acquiring Twitter last year October for over 44 billion dollars, Elon Musk has made a slew of changes to the popular social media platform.

First, he unbanned infamous accounts like Donald Trump’s. Then, changing the process of Twitter verification. Recently, he also revoked free access to Twitter’s API.

All of which have led to a lot of criticism and backlash. The latest of the bunch is the removal of legacy Twitter blue ticks.

Now, if you want that blue tick beside your profile, you’ll need to flush out $8 a month. For your organization account, $1000 a month, and $50 for the company’s employee accounts.

Apart from being a costly affair, the bigger issue is that of scammers and bots.

Now, anyone can pay for the blue tick. So, let’s say a random Joe from their basement created an account named ‘Joe Biden’. Will he be verified as Joe Biden the regular Joe? Or Joe Biden, President of the United States of America?

Can Twitter Recover?

Ever since the takeover of Twitter, users have planned to move elsewhere and leave the platform for good. During all of this, Elon’s decisions seem to drive people further away.

Are you willing to stay or pay for Twitter Blue? Or do you think it’s a waste to even consider Twitter to be a reliable place?
