UpScrolled’s Social Network Growth Continues, Crossing 2.5 Million Users Worldwide

In Focus

  • UpScrolled’s social network crossed 2.5 million users within six months
  • The platform promotes reduced algorithmic influence and chronological feeds
  • AI-driven engagement strategies widen contrasts across social media

Social media platform UpScrolled has seen significant growth, crossing 2.5 million users worldwide, according to a TechCrunch report. Founder Issam Hijazi shared the milestone during a recent appearance at Web Summit Qatar, highlighting strong adoption since early January.

The sudden rise places UpScrolled among the fastest-growing social networks this year. Analysts say the momentum reflects broader social media user growth in 2026, driven by users reassessing platform trust, content visibility, and governance models.

Platform Philosophy for Faster Growth

UpScrolled began January with a few hundred thousand users before crossing one million later that month and continuing its steep climb. As UpScrolled reaches 2.5 million users, the company credits its growth to a product approach that limits traditional algorithmic amplification.

Instead, the platform emphasizes chronological feeds and direct user control over content discovery. Hijazi has positioned UpScrolled as a response to practices he believes dominate large social platforms.

They don’t care about selling your data to someone else if that means profit for them. And they don’t care about your mental health, as in they will design something just to keep you addicted to using that platform as long as it’s profitable for them,” Hijazi said, as cited by TechCrunch. The comments highlight the platform’s effort to differentiate itself on ethics and user well-being.

This stance contrasts with the direction taken by established platforms. Meta, for example, continues to expand artificial intelligence across its platforms. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently said, “Soon, we’ll see an explosion of new media formats that are more immersive and interactive, and only possible because of advances in AI,” signaling how AI-driven personalization is becoming central to engagement strategies.

External Shifts and Competitive Markets

UpScrolled’s rise also coincides with structural changes across the industry. The TikTok ownership change in the U.S., which led to the creation of a joint venture under majority American control, has added uncertainty around governance and long-term strategy.

Against this backdrop, alternative platforms have benefited from increased visibility. UpScrolled’s positioning as a non-algorithm-heavy network has resonated with users seeking predictability and transparency. However, analysts caution that user migration driven by uncertainty may prove temporary unless platforms deliver sustained engagement and effective moderation at scale.

Growing Challenges with Growing Popularity

Despite its popularity, UpScrolled faces challenges common to fast-growing social networks. The company plans to expand its moderation system and enforce community guidelines to meet regulatory requirements. Monetization plans have not been disclosed, though investor interest is reportedly rising. Balancing growth, safety, and sustainability will be critical as competition intensifies across the sector.

Will UpScrolled’s Strategy Bring a Social Media Shift?

UpScrolled’s expansion highlights a shifting social media ecosystem in 2026, shaped by regulatory change, AI-driven engagement, and rising user scrutiny. While still smaller than established platforms, its growth points to increasing demand for alternatives and may influence how competitors rethink transparency, data use, and engagement design.
