Twitter Makes Several Changes on Policy After They Blocked Biden story

Twitter has recently said that they have made changes in its policy on hacked content after it decided to block a news report critical of Joe Biden, Democratic presidential candidate, provoked the Republican fury.  

Late on Thursday, the social media giant with a user base of millions said that in the future, it would block stolen information posted directly by hackers. Besides, it will also label any other information of questionable provenance 

Earlier, Senate Republicans said that they would subpoena Jack Dorsey. Twitter chief executive, to testify before two different committees. They will question him on why the company blocked links to an article alleging corruption by Biden in Ukraine in the New York Post.

Late Thursday, Twitter’s legal and policy executive Vijaya Gadde tweeted that they are under changes to its two-year-old Hacked Materials Policy. He said that the platform would “no longer remove hacked content unless it is directly shared by hackers or those acting in concert with them.”  

After the firm made the change to address, Gadde said, “concerns that there could be many unintended consequences to journalists, whistleblowers, and others in ways that are contrary to Twitter’s purpose of serving the public conversation.”  

After a public anger outbreak on social media companies grapple with questions of bias and misinformation during an election campaign. It was characterized by controversy and divisiveness 

Also, Trump’s prolific and unfiltered presence on Twitter has boasted more than 87 million followers which have further made things even more complicated for the platform.  

A story by Post aims to expose corrupt dealings by Biden and his son Hunter Biden. The newspaper has claimed that he was in charge of U.S. policy toward Ukraine. His father took several actions to help his son.   

In the year 2014-2017, they sat on the board of controversial Ukraine energy company Burisma. However, the outlet’s source for the information raised several questions.  

Reports had also made several claims about Joe Biden’s actions in Ukraine.
