TikTok is introducing a feature that allows users to determine how much AI-generated content to view in their “For You” feed. Users can find the TikTok AI-generated content control (AIGC) tool within the “Manage Topics” feature, TechCrunch reported.
“We invest in AI-powered experiences that create value for our community, while building transparency tools to spot, shape and understand AI-generated content,” TikTok said in a blog post.
TikTok’s “Manage Topics” AI feature enables users to choose which content to view on TikTok across 10 categories, including Dance, Sports, and Food & Drinks. Similarly, TikTok’s AIGC setting is designed to customize their feeds.
“The AIGC setting is intended to help people tailor the diverse range of content in their feed, rather than removing or replacing content in feeds entirely,” TikTok added.
TikTok added that users can “personalize content recommendations and discover more of what they love” using the AIGC tool.
TikTok’s AI-generated content feed tool comes at a time when tech giants like Meta and OpenAI are integrating AI-only feeds. Earlier this year, Meta launched Vibes, an AI-generated video feed for creating and sharing short videos.
AI startup OpenAI also unveiled an AI-powered video generation tool, Sora 2 which creates short-form videos.
TikTok plans to roll out its AI-generated content control feature in the coming weeks.
Users can access TikTok’s content transparency tool through the “Manage Topics” option.
The “Manage Topics” option is located under the “Content Preferences” in the Settings section. Users can use the slider to adjust how much AI-generated content they wish to view in their feeds.
The video streaming platform says users who wish to view less AI-generated content can increase frequency, and those who wish to view more of it can increase it.
TikTok also launched an invisible watermarking technology for labeling AI content. Already, the video streaming platform requires content creators to label AI-generated content.
The social media giant uses a cross-industry technology known as C2PA Content Credentials to embed metadata into the content, allowing its system and other platforms to identify AI-generated content.
But the challenge with this technology is that the labels can be removed when content is edited on other platforms or re-uploaded. TikTok’s invisible watermarking technology is designed to address this gap.
The technology makes labels harder to remove and adds a new layer of safeguards through watermarks that only TikTok systems can read.
TikTok will be adding invisible watermarks to AI content created using tools like the AI Editor Pro as well as content uploaded with C2PA’s Content Credentials. Even so, TikTok will continue reading C2PA’s Content Credentials and include them in AI content generated on its platform.
