Samsung Strengthens Make in India Push with Laptop Manufacturing

Samsung has now begun making laptops in India at its Greater Noida facility, Inc42 reported. Union minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday, 16th August, that the South Korean tech giant is expanding its production portfolio in India. It already runs its second-largest mobile phone factory globally in the country and is currently India’s second-biggest handset exporter after Apple.

The minister wrote on X, “Samsung continues to expand manufacturing of its advanced technology devices in Bharat, driven by talent and innovation. Its research unit in Bharat has more than 7,000 engineers.”

New Chapter for Samsung’s Indian Operations

Samsung India’s laptop manufacturing initiative represents its efforts towards portfolio diversification and supply chain management. Samsung’s plant was one of the first global electronics manufacturing facilities set up in India in 1996, and this latest move shows the company’s continued faith in India as a manufacturing hub.

Samsung has begun assembling laptops in India at its Greater Noida facility, where it manufactures many mobile devices. This development comes after the company announced its plans earlier this year to diversify its production portfolio in the country.

Expanding Beyond Mobile Devices

Samsung’s laptop factory in Noida adds to an already impressive list of products manufactured at the facility. Samsung has been making feature phones, smartphones, wearables, and tablets at its Greater Noida factory. The addition of laptops makes this facility one of the most diverse electronics manufacturing sites in India.

The Greater Noida plant has been a cornerstone of Samsung’s Indian operations for years. In July 2018, Samsung inaugurated what it called the world’s largest mobile factory in Noida. Now, the company is using this established infrastructure to expand into the laptop segment.

Strategic Manufacturing Push

Samsung’s manufacturing push in India aligns with the government’s Make in India initiative. By choosing to manufacture laptops locally, Samsung is not only reducing import costs but could also create job opportunities for Indian workers.
