Samsung Brings Perplexity AI Assistant to its Galaxy S26 Smartphone Lineup

In Focus

  • Perplexity’s AI agent will be integrated into Samsung’s ecosystem
  • Users will be able to activate the AI assistant using the ‘Hey Plex’ hotword
  • Samsung plans to build a multi-agent ecosystem in Galaxy AI

Samsung has announced its upcoming Galaxy S26 smartphone series. According to Gadgets360, the new series will comprise Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. In addition to Galaxy AI, Samsung said that the new smartphone lineup will feature the Galaxy S26 Perplexity assistant.

‘Hey Plex’ Comes to Galaxy S26 Smartphones

With the integration of Perplexity AI, Samsung users will now be able to activate Perplexity’s AI assistant by either pressing the side button or saying ‘Hey Plex’. The Galaxy S26 ‘Hey Plex’ hotword is part of an open and inclusive Samsung’s integrated AI ecosystem that includes Bixby and Google.

“Hey Google” has been present on Android devices for many years. However, on Samsung Galaxy devices, it exists alongside the ‘Hey Bixby’ hotword. Perplexity is now getting into this mix.

At the beginning of this year, Samsung integrated Perplexity AI into Bixby to make it an AI-powered assistant. As Samsung expands its inclusive AI ecosystem through collaboration with partners, the tech company continues to focus on providing tools that are easy to use and readily accessible to all.

How the Samsung Galaxy S26 AI Assistant Works

Like Galaxy AI, Perplexity’s agent will be integrated into Samsung’s ecosystem. According to the smartphone manufacturer, the AI assistant will work across its built-in apps and other third-party apps on the Galaxy S26 smartphone lineup.

“Deeply embedded across select Samsung apps, including Samsung Notes, Clock, Gallery, Reminder and Calendar, as well as select third-party apps, Perplexity’s AI agent enables smoother, multi-step workflows, allowing users to move seamlessly between tasks without manually managing individual apps,” Samsung noted on its website.

Inclusion of Perplexity AI in the Galaxy S26 series could give Samsung an advantage over Apple, which dominated the global smartphone market in 2025 with a 20% share.

Building an Integrated Multi-Agent Ecosystem

Samsung’s decision to integrate Perplexity AI into Galaxy S26 smartphones is part of a long-term plan to build a multi-agent ecosystem in Galaxy AI. According to the South Korean tech company, about 8 out of 10 Samsung users depend on more than two AI agents.

“We’ve been committed to building an open and inclusive integrated AI ecosystem that gives users more choice, flexibility and control to get complex tasks done quickly and easily. Galaxy AI acts as an orchestrator, bringing together different forms of AI into a single, natural, cohesive experience,” Samsung Electronics President and Chief Operating Officer, Won-Joon Choi said as per the company’s website.

Samsung smartphones already use Galaxy AI agent and Gemini AI. In January 2026, Samsung announced that it would integrate AI features into 400 million additional devices this year, bringing the total number of devices with such features to 800 million. The company had integrated AI features in about 400 million mobile devices, including tablets and smartphones, by the end of 2025.
