Qualcomm has launched two new mobile chips during the Snapdragon India summit. The new mobile chips are the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chip and Snapdragon 6 Gen 5. The newly launched Snapdragon chips are mid and premium segment processors. Qualcomm launched the two chips months after it started discussing production of 2-nanometer chips with Samsung Electronics.

New Chips Offers Better Performance

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset features Qualcomm’s Kryo CPU and Adreno GPU. According to the chipmaker, the chip’s performance is 77% higher than its predecessor. The chip is also 10% more efficient in saving power compared to Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 system-on-chip.

Qualcomm, which has also built an automated driving system, said the new chip offers an additional one hour of video streaming and 1.7 hours of music streaming. The new Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chip also allows users to enjoy 35 more minutes on voice calls and 15 minutes of browsing on Google Chrome.

During the chipset launch, Qualcomm lauded the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset for its smooth performance, faster connectivity, and AI-powered camera features. The chip also runs on Qualcomm Kryo CPU and Adreno GPU, allowing it to perform 21% better than its predecessors.
The newly launched Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chip is 8% more energy efficient than the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4. Its energy saving capability offers users two additional hours of music streaming and 38 more minutes of gaming. To support immersive gaming, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 comes with features like :

  • Adaptive Performance Engine 4.0
  • Snapdragon Game Super Resolution
  • The Qualcomm Frames Per Second 3.0

The Chipsets Are Built for 5G Connectivity

Both Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 are designed for better connectivity. The two chips can support up to 2.8 Gbps of download speed through the Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF system.

In Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, 3GPP Release 17 of 5G connectivity and DSDA in 5G activates both SIM cards in smartphones simultaneously, enabling 5G data on one SIM while using data or receiving calls on the other. Snapdragon 5 Gen 5 uses FDD Power Class 2 for uplink. It features the FDD Uplink which supports stable connections, consistent speeds, and reliability.

Both chips are designed to work with Qualcomm Smart Network Select 3.0, which enables faster recovery from 4G to 5G. The chips make voice calls over 5G networks in fast moving trains more efficient. They offer a better display than their predecessor, reducing screen stutter and launching mobile apps faster.

Which Smartphones Will be Powered by the New Chipsets?

Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 is expected to power upcoming Honor and Redmi devices that are expected to launch later this year. Qualcomm said the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chip will power mid-level smartphones built by Oppo, Realme, and Xiaomi.
