Google and Qualcomm have hinted that Android PCs may become a reality. According to NDTV, a statement by the Qualcomm CEO shows the Android PC is incredible, and that it represents Google’s vision of bringing its mobile ecosystem to laptops and desktops.
AndroidOS is Google’s mobile operating system, while ChromeOS is the software that runs Google’s Chromebook laptops. The last time Google hinted at combining AndroidOS with ChromeOS systems was in July 2025. At the time, the company’s President of Android Ecosystem Sameer Samat said the company planned to bring the two systems to a single platform.
Qualcomm Chief Executive Officer Cristiano Amon said, “I’ve seen it, it is incredible. It delivers on the vision of convergence of mobile and PC. I can’t wait to have one.”
Amon was speaking at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit where Google’s head of platforms and devices Rick Osterloh also engaged in a keynote conversation. In his comments, Osterloh confirmed the Google ChromeOS Android integration, saying that the two companies have been building a common foundation for PCs and mobile devices.
“In the past, we’ve always had very different systems between what we’re building on PCs and what we’re building on smartphones, and we’ve embarked on a project to combine that. We are building together a common technical foundation for our products on PCs and desktop computing systems,” Osterloh said.
The two executives also discussed their future plans, ranging from PCs to automotive. Qualcomm will be unveiling the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset at the Summit on September 24, 2025.
According to the Google representative, the collaboration between the two tech companies will see Google integrate Gemini AI and Android AI features to PC environments.
Google plans to take its AI agents to desktops and laptops soon after it added Gemini AI to Google TV and integrating it with its tablets, smartphones, smartwatches, and Workspace Apps. On Google TV, Gemini offers AI features that enable users to search and discover new content fast and with ease.
The entrance of the Android operating system for computers in the market is expected to cause disruptions that could affect computing ecosystems. It’s still unclear whether Google will introduce the product as an upgrade to ChromeOS as opposed to a fully fledged suite that competes with macOS or Windows. The majority of laptops and computers currently run on Windows. Apple devices such as MacBooks and iMacs run on macOS.
If developed, Google’s Android PCs will be built with the new Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. This is the latest addition to Qualcomm’s premium Snapdragon 8 line and is set to succeed the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 comes with custom Oryon CPU cores, which Qualcomm has been designing for several years. The chip also features an upgraded Adreno graphics unit that boosts graphics and gaming performance. Qualcomm launched data center chips that work directly with NVIDIA AI technology in May 2025. The data center chips were designed to power artificial intelligence systems and offer compatibility with the AI infrastructure.
Besides Google, high-end smartphone makers like Samsung and China-based Xiaomi are expected to use the chip in their next-generation smartphone models. Google recently launched the Pixel 10 series AI-powered smartphones. The smartphone comes with capabilities to handle complex requests.
