Modi and Musk Discuss Future of Technology Innovation and Sustainability

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Friday. The two leaders identified the vast opportunities that exist in modern technology developments. Musk’s companies, Tesla and SpaceX, are looking to expand their presence in India. This conversation highlights the growing interest of Musk’s ventures in the Indian market. The event focused on technology, innovation, and sustainable practices.

The discussion, reported by Mint, shows India’s commitment to strengthening global partnerships in these key sectors. The dialogue between Modi and Musk could lead to closer cooperation between India and the U.S. This collaboration has the potential to sustain technological growth throughout the tech sectors of the two nations.

Reimagining the Indian EV Market with Tesla

Tesla’s long-anticipated entry into India has been discussed for years. Recent reports suggest that the company is close to launching in the country. Tesla plans to launch a new electric vehicle (EV) which will cost less than $25,000 before the year ends. This price would make Tesla’s EVs more affordable for Indian consumers. The electric vehicle industry in India would undergo a major transformation because of this development.

The company is reportedly considering importing vehicles from its Berlin plant. Tesla is also believed to be recruiting employees in India. This shows that they are ready to make a significant investment in India’s growing electric vehicle market.

Indian authorities are developing their national program towards sustainable energy alongside electric mobility. This creates the ideal environment for Tesla to expand. India has introduced a policy specifically designed for Tesla. It allows the company to import 8,000 electric cars each year at a significantly reduced duty of 15 percent.

Tesla’s entry into India is seen as more than just a business expansion. The initiative supports India’s wider initiatives to lower carbon emissions and implement sustainable alternatives.

SpaceX Brings Starlink to India

The conversation also covered the topic of the Starlink India launch. The satellite internet system from SpaceX named Starlink enables quick internet access throughout isolated regions of India. People residing in rural regions continue to depend on unreliable internet connections. The introduction of Starlink technology to the market will support efforts to close the digital gap.

Reliance Jio made a partnership announcement with SpaceX in March 2025 through its owner Mukesh Ambani to introduce Starlink satellite services across India. Through this business deal the organizations aim to enhance internet connectivity throughout India’s national territory. This partnership will open better education, healthcare and business opportunities to millions of residents.

Strengthening the India-US Tech Partnership

The Modi-Musk conversation is part of a larger effort to deepen the India-US tech partnership. The two leaders met in Washington DC during February 2025 to explore ways which would advance mutual projects including artificial intelligence research space exploration initiatives and sustainable development programs. This was a continuation of earlier talks focused on enhancing ties between India and the U.S. in the tech space.

The PM declared India’s dedication to building strategic partnerships with the United States particularly within developing technological sectors. Modi and Musk explored ways to develop innovative solutions and entrepreneurial programs and improve successful administrative practices.

Both leaders discussed how about how this partnership will shape future of technological advancements. The collaboration between India and the U.S. is expected to strengthen more due to partnerships with companies such as Tesla and SpaceX.
