Perplexity Introduces Agentic AI Platform that Works With Apple’s Mac Mini

In Focus

  • Perplexity’s Personal Computer connects to Apple’s Mac Mini devices
  • The AI agent allows users to access local files and apps remotely
  • Perplexity AI also launched Comet Enterprise and Computer for Enterprise

Perplexity AI is introducing a multi-model AI system called the Personal Computer. According to Gadgets360, Perplexity AI’s Personal Computer is not a hardware product. Rather, it’s an AI agent tool that links Perplexity Computer to Apple’s Mac Mini device to enable access to local files and apps remotely.

Agent Turns Spare Space into an AI System

The Mac Mini AI automation tool can convert a spare device into a locally run artificial intelligence system. By doing so, the spare device acts as an AI digital proxy assistant.

Personal Computer runs on a dedicated Mac mini that can run 24/7, connected to your local apps and Perplexity’s secure servers. Personal Computer is a digital proxy for you, working constantly on your behalf and allowing you to orchestrate all of your tools, tasks, and files from any device, anywhere,” Perplexity AI stated in a blog post.

Perplexity AI’s automation system can be controlled from anywhere and through any device. With the deep access, the multi-model AI system represents a more personalized version of the Perplexity Computer.

While launching the Perplexity Computer, the AI developer said the AI-powered workflow system allows users to execute tasks and conduct complicated research through a network of models.

The New AI Agent Competes with Claude Work

Perplexity’s Personal Computer is set to compete with different automation tools in the market. These include Microsoft’s Copilot Cowork, Anthropic’s Claude Cowork, and OpenClaw, whose founder joined OpenAI in February 2026. OpenClaw allows users to use AI agents on computers and apps.

Perplexity is positioning the new system as more secure compared to platforms like OpenClaw. The company says the Personal Computer offers users a full audit trail and controls to reverse or approve sensitive actions before they are executed.

The platform comes with a unique feature known as a kill switch. This feature allows users to quickly stop the system if it starts performing unwanted actions, like deleting emails.

Perplexity’s Personal Computer is only available to a limited number of users. The company, which also owns the Comet AI browser, did not reveal when the service will launch officially, but it has set up a waitlist for interested individuals to register.

What the New AI System Means for Perplexity

The Personal computer points to Perplexity AI’s strategy to position its products as specialized productivity tools in the market. Like the Perplexity Computer, the personal AI agent tool is designed for professional use.

In a video demonstration, Perplexity showcased the AI agent for local apps and files as a virtual assistant. In the video, users interact with the AI tool by typing or speaking prompts that the Personal Computer uses to draft emails, rank candidates, or turn reports into slides.

Perplexity AI launched several other products alongside the Personal Computer. These include Comet Enterprise and Computer for Enterprise. The AI firm also introduced four application programming interfaces namely Agent, Search, Sandbox, and Embeddings.
