Global payment platform PayPal is relaunching in the U.K. nearly two years after it restructured operations in the country, Yahoo Finance reported. PayPal’s U.K. relaunch offers British customers a unified payment experience for both online and in-store purchases.
“This is the start of an exciting new chapter for PayPal in the UK. We’ve listened to our customers and reimagined our products into one unified solution, offering a smarter way to pay both online and in-stores,” PayPal’s Consumer Group General Manager Diego Scotti said.
Benefits of PayPal’s Loyalty Programme to U.K. Consumers
PayPal is introducing its own credit and debit cards while giving British consumers access to its loyalty programme, PayPal+. In the U.K., PayPal’s loyalty programme allows shoppers to earn rewards on in-store and online purchases.
Buyers will earn points anytime they pay through PayPal cards, PayPal balance, or the company’s Buy Now Pay Later option. British shoppers can sign up for the program via the PayPal app free of charge.
Shoppers can redeem PayPal+ points in shops across the globe when checking out with PayPal online. For every 1000 PayPal+ points, shoppers will get £10 to spend.
PayPal+ is compatible with other loyalty programmes, allowing shoppers to stack their points with other loyalty rewards. This compatibility allows consumers to maximize their daily spend.
In a bid to make shopping seamless, PayPal has partnered with OpenAI to enable in-chat shopping. This allows ChatGPT users to complete purchases using PayPal’s digital wallet.
From Digital Payment to Seamless Payment
PayPal’s U.K. debit card launch represents a significant shift for the digital payment platform. As a global payment gateway, PayPal is transforming from an online payment platform to one that makes payment seamless everywhere.
What PayPal’s Debit Card Offers:
- Customers can use it anywhere in the world with zero transaction costs
- Debit card can be accessed via the PayPal app
- Shoppers can use it to make contactless payments
- PayPal debit card links directly to the PayPal wallet
- Debit card can be linked to PayPal+
- Customers earn 10x more points when they pay with debit card
PayPal Offers Customers More Flexibility
PayPal’s online and in-store payment solutions in the U.K. are designed to offer customers more flexibility.
The company is already offering PayPal credit to eligible shoppers online and plans to expand this solution through a virtual and a physical credit card for in-store payments.
“We’ve listened to our customers and built products that rethink how people use PayPal every day,” PayPal General Manager in the U.K. Tamer El‑Emary said.
Customers will earn PayPal+ points with the credit card for both online and in-store purchases. PayPal will also bring its Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) solution called Pay in 3 to the U.K.
