Oura has launched Ring 5. The new ring is designed for a wider audience. It’s particularly ideal for people who have found previous generations too bulky. The fifth generation smart ring launched one and a half years after Ring 4, and seven months after Ring 4 Ceramic. Oura Ring 5’s pricing starts at $399.
How Big is the Oura Ring 5 Smart Ring?
Oura has termed Ring 5 as the smallest smart ring in the world. The company said the ring is 40% smaller than Oura Ring 4 while offering the same level of tracking, sensing, and accuracy as its predecessor. Oura’s lightweight smart ring is designed to look and feel like any other ring.
“This was a hard technological challenge. There are laws of physics involved with the sizes of batteries and the ability to pack all the electronics, the sensors; the geometry is different because it’s so small,” Oura CEO, Tom Hale noted as cited by CNBC.
Oura Ring 5 comes with improved battery life that can last six to nine days. This is slightly longer than Ring 4’s five to eight days. However, this is lower than Ultrahuman’s Ring Pro, which offers up to 15 days of battery life. The smart ring is also designed for better skin contact and features powerful LEDs that boost accuracy across skin tones and finger sizes.
What are the Main Features of Ring 5?
Oura Ring 5 features a “Health Radar” designed to track major biometric signals. The “Health Radar” features two key capabilities, “Blood Pressure Signals” and “Nighttime Breathing”. The ring also comes with new software updates that include on-demand care and live activity tracking.
Oura said the ring is designed to detect changes and patterns of possible cardiovascular strain. Using the “Blood Pressure Signals” feature, the Oura Ring 5 tracks blood pressure patterns during sleep. Users can log actual readings directly into the Oura application.
With the “Nighttime Breathing” feature, Ring 5 helps users to understand how their breathing patterns during sleep can affect their health. The smart ring offers users a month-long view of sleep disturbances and breathing patterns, which provides useful insights into their health. Oura has partnered with Counsel Health to connect Ring 5 users to actual care.
With this partnership, Oura Ring 5 users can ask health-related questions and receive personalized advice. In the U.S., users will also be linked to licensed physicians for care. Oura will charge a $5.99 monthly subscription fee for this service. Additionally, Ring 5 users in the U.S. can add diagnosis, medications, allergies, and lab results to the Oura app to get a comprehensive understanding of their health.
