OpenAI Launches a Warmer, More Conversational GPT- 5.1 Model

OpenAI has rolled out GPT-5.1, an upgraded version of its most advanced AI model, GPT-5. According to Gadgets360, OpenAI’s GPT-5.1 launch offers users improved intelligence and tonality.

GPT-5.1 Upgrade Features Two Variants

OpenAI’s AI model upgrade is characterized by the release of GPT-5.1 Instant and GPT-5.1 Thinking. Announcing the launch, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called it “a nice upgrade”.

“I particularly like the improvements in instruction following and the adaptive thinking. The intelligence and style improvements are good too,” Altman posted on X.

This is the first major upgrade to be undertaken on the GPT-5 model since its release in August 2025. The AI startup will maintain accessibility to GPT-5 in ChatGPT for three months before removing it. Older models like GPT-4o and GPT-4.1 will remain available to users.

OpenAI will roll out the Instant and Thinking variants of GPT-5.1 starting November 13, 2025.
The upgrade will first be accessible to paid subscribers, including ChatGPT Go, which launched in India in August 2025. OpenAI might make it available to free and logged-out users later. The November 2025 ChatGPT model update will be available to developers later this week.

GPT-5.1 Instant offers users warmer, intelligent conversations that feel more natural. GPT-5.1 Thinking, on the other hand, is designed to handle complex reasoning tasks. It is faster, clearer, and generates friendlier responses.

“This makes our most capable model more approachable and easily understandable, especially for complex tasks at work and explaining technical concepts,” OpenAI stated on its website.

But the key highlight of the update is the inclusion of a new customization feature. With GPT 5.1’s conversational upgrade, OpenAI allows users to personalize ChatGPT with regard to how it sounds and responds.

The AI startup gives users the option of setting personality styles. Users can pick one of the six styles available, which are Default, Efficient, Candid, Professional, Friendly, and Quirky.

The latest upgrade comes with improved instruction following capabilities. GPT-5.1 follows prompts more closely and limits responses to user requests.
