Can OpenAI’s Frontier Agent Service Dethrone Anthropic in Enterprise AI?

In Focus

  • OpenAI is targeting enterprises with the new AI agent platform
  • Frontier makes AI agent development and deployment easier for businesses
  • The AI firm is offering Frontier as a complimentary service to existing services

OpenAI has launched Frontier, an enterprise platform that serves as an intelligence layer that combines data and disparate systems. According to CNBC, OpenAI’s Frontier service agent is part of the company’s efforts to attract enterprise clients. Last year, CEO Sam Altman said that enterprise growth would be an area of focus for OpenAI.

Simplifying AI Agent Development

OpenAI said the new platform is designed to simplify development, deployment, and management of AI agents in companies. AI agents are capable of performing tasks independently on behalf of users.

“Frontier is really a recognition that we’re not going to build everything ourselves. We are going to be working with the ecosystem to build alongside them, and we embrace the fact that enterprises are going to need a lot of different partners,” CEO of Applications at OpenAI, Fidji Simo said as cited by CNBC.

OpenAI’s business AI agent push comes at a time when its competitor, Anthropic, is generating most of its revenue from enterprises. Early this year, the Claude AI developer expanded enterprise AI leadership to the global insurance sector after signing a deal with German-based Allianz SE.

OpenAI launched an AI agent platform while its Code Red directive remains effective. The directive, which Altman announced in December 2025, shifted the company’s focus toward critical ChatGPT improvements.

Focus on Growing Enterprise Client Base

In recent months, OpenAI has been aggressive in its enterprise push. Last month, OpenAI said that enterprise customers currently account for about 40% of its business. The company expects this percentage to reach 50% by the end of this year.

In November 2025, the AI firm announced that over 1 million business clients were using its technology globally in November 2025. OpenAI’s Frontier for business AI agents is currently being offered as a complementary service to current offerings, including ChatGPT Enterprise.

What’s really missing still, for most companies, is just a simple way to unleash the power of agents as teammates that can operate inside the business without the need to rework everything underneath. That’s exactly why we’ve built Frontier,” OpenAI’s Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser noted as reported by CNBC.

How Frontier AI Agent Platform Works

The Frontier platform integrates with AI agents developed by OpenAI and those developed by third parties like Anthropic, Microsoft and Google. Within an enterprise, the new platform allows agents to access a shared business context by linking ticketing tools, internal applications, and data warehouses.

The AI agents use the context to reason with data and perform complicated tasks. Enterprises that use the platform will have their employees use agents to run code and work with files. Frontier also comes with built-in tools that evaluate and optimize the performance of AI agents.
