  • The AI-powered glasses will feature cameras, microphones, and speakers
  • The British startup plans to unveil AI-enabled earbuds this year

U.K.-based company Nothing is planning to introduce smart glasses in 2027. A report by TechCrunch shows that Nothing’s AI smart glasses will be fitted with microphones, cameras, and speakers. The glasses will also connect to smartphones and the cloud platforms to support AI queries.

Nothing Adopts a Multi-Device Strategy

Previously, Nothing CEO and Co-founder Carl Pei opposed the idea of developing smart glasses. However, he has now embraced the idea and informed his team that he wants the company to adopt a multi-device approach. Nothing’s AI smart glasses plan expands its product range from the current smartphone and audio gear lineups.

Recently, the company introduced two new mid-range smartphones, the Phone 4a and Phone 4a Pro, expanding its portfolio for 2026. The two smartphone lineups feature an innovative Glyph design, fast processors and Pro-level cameras.

Besides the AI smart glasses, Nothing is planning to unveil earbuds this year. The wearable devices will feature AI capabilities. Previously, CEO Pei has said that the company planned on releasing its initial AI wearable device this year, but did not specify what it would be.

Which Companies Will Nothing Compete With?

As it expands its ecosystem of wearable AI devices, Nothing will be taking on tech giants like Meta. The social media giant has already developed multiple versions of smart glasses. Earlier this year, the social media giant delayed the global rollout of its Ray-Ban smart glasses due to supply shortages and high demand for the glasses in the United States.

Nothing will also be competing against Samsung, which is preparing to introduce its first AI-powered glasses. Samsung smart glasses are expected to feature a camera and smartphone connectivity. The South Korean tech giant is partnering with Qualcomm and Google to develop the smart glasses

Other companies that are making smart glasses are Even Realities and Rokid. iPhone maker Apple is reportedly planning to release AI-powered glasses in 2027.

What Next for Nothing?

CEO Pei has repeatedly insisted that the U.K. startup must focus on innovation, both in hardware and software to remain competitive. This innovation should be centered on AI. As part of its AI wearable strategy, Nothing introduced a tool that allows users to develop mini apps using artificial intelligence prompts last year.

The company attained unicorn status in 2025 following a $200 million Series C fundraising round to advance product innovation and support global expansion. The funding round pushed the company’s valuation to $1.3 billion. The company has built a loyal customer base due to its distinctive transparent smartphone design.

Even so, Nothing controls a significantly small market share compared to big players like Apple and Samsung, which dominate the global smartphone market. Other companies that hold significant market share in the industry are Google, and major Chinese brands like Huawei and Oppo.
