Netflix Introduces Playground Gaming App to Expand Pre-School Content

In Focus

  • The kids gaming app is designed for kids aged eight years and below
  • The new app is available in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.
  • Netflix plans to launch the app globally on April 28, 2026

Video streaming platform Netflix is expanding its children’s content lineup, Indian Times reported. The company made the announcement during the launch of Netflix Playground, an interactive gaming app designed for kids eight years and below.

Improving Experiences for Younger Audiences

With the kids content expansion plan, Netflix is bringing educational experiences to younger audiences. It comes with activities like puzzles, coloring, memory games, coordination exercises, and exploratory play built around familiar characters. Overall, the digital platform is expected to encourage creativity and support basic learning skills in a fun, engaging way.

Netflix says the purpose of the new platform is aimed at creating a more curated and engaging space for young viewers. It blends entertainment with learning and interactive play. The Netflix Playground app also expands on the company’s parental controls and gives families more tools to manage what their children watch.

We’re building a world where kids can not only watch their favourite stories, they can step inside them and interact with their favourite characters,” Netflix Vice President of Animation Series + Kids & Family TV, John Derderian noted.

Netflix is expanding controls for parents at a time when social media platforms like YouTube have issued updates that limit the time children spend on the platform.

Netflix Plans to Introduce New Shows

In addition to the kids app, the company has updated the Netflix kids and preschool shows. Animated series Trash Truck has been renewed for a third season, and the company is planning to introduce new episodes of The Creature Cases. The company will also add a new preschool show, Young MacDonald.

We’re creating a seamless destination for discovery, learning, and play. Whether it’s reuniting with Hank and the Trash Truck crew for new adventures or making a smoothie with Peppa Pig, watching and playing on Netflix can be the fun and easiest part of every family’s day,” Derderian said.

The company is positioning the kids entertainment platform as a companion app where children can play games. Netflix, which planned to buy HBO Max last year, said the new app allows users to explore activities featuring popular characters like Peppa Pig, Sesame Street, and Dr. Seuss.

When is Netflix Rolling Out the App?

The new app is available in multiple markets, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Philippines and New Zealand. The company plans to launch it globally on April 28, 2026. Users can download the app on smartphones and tablets, and the content will be available offline. The app is included with standard Netflix subscriptions and does not have ads, in-app purchases, or extra fees.
