Netflix has launched a new AI chatbot for iPhone users as part of an optional beta test. This feature, called the Netflix AI Chatbot, is now available in select countries, including the United States.
According to Deccan Herald, the AI-powered tool is designed to improve how users find content by allowing them to type in natural, conversational phrases to get personalized recommendations.
With the new beta iOS feature launched by Netflix, it includes an experimental Generative AI search tool users can simply ask the chatbot for suggestions in everyday language. For instance, typing “I want something funny and upbeat” will bring up a list of movies or shows that match that mood. The idea is to make searching for content faster, more fun, and less frustrating.
Alongside the chatbot, the company is also introducing a vertical feed that shows short video clips from shows and movies. These updates are part of a broader strategy to make Netflix’s Content Discovery AI smarter and more interactive.
Netflix is also preparing a full redesign of its TV and mobile app interface. The company says the new layout will offer a cleaner, more modern look that helps users spend less time searching and more time watching. Features like ‘Search’ and ‘My List’, which were previously harder to access, will be moved to the top of the screen so users can find them more quickly. The homepage will also become more dynamic, with better real-time recommendations that respond to users’ current moods and interests.
In a recent announcement, Chief Product Officer Eunice Kim and Chief Technology Officer Elizabeth Stone shared more details about the update. Kim described the new experience as simpler, easier, and more intuitive, saying, “The new Netflix TV experience is still the one you know and love — just better.” Stone added that what sets Netflix apart is its ability to combine strong technology with great entertainment. She said, “One of the reasons I joined (and why I stay) is because this company has always had a unique ability to marry incredible tech with incredible entertainment. That’s our superpower.”
Kim also emphasized that the redesign was meant to be flexible enough for Netflix’s wide range of content, while also being responsive to user needs. She explained, “When we first started thinking about this project, we wanted to create an experience that was more flexible for our broad entertainment offerings, more intuitive and responsive to our members’ needs, and capable of elevating the most thrilling moments on Netflix.” As a result, more information about each title, like whether it’s a “#1 in TV Shows” or an “Emmy Award Winner”, will be made more visible to help viewers choose quickly and confidently.
Stone also mentioned that “What’s most exciting to me is how our new TV experience gives us the ability to evolve and innovate more easily going forward. That’s how we’re going to make the Netflix people know even better. And it’s how we’ll continue to connect them with even more shows, movies and games they’ll love.”
