Meta Platforms has added Hindi and Portuguese to its AI-powered Reels translation feature.
According to the Indian Express, Meta AI Reels Hindi and Portuguese translation allows creators to convert Reels to without engaging in extra steps.
Meta launched the AI-powered voice translation feature for Instagram and Facebook Reels in August 2025. The feature translates, dubs, and syncs lip movement on Facebook and Instagram Reels. The feature now supports four languages – Spanish, English, Hindi and Portuguese. The social media giant says more languages will be added soon.
Creating Reels in local languages will make global content more accessible, enabling creators to reach followers around the world in their preferred language. Content creators who wish to boost their reach and connect with new audiences will find the language update more helpful.
“Many creators want to reach global audiences, and their feedback helped shape our work on translation features. With Meta AI, creators can now seamlessly translate and dub reels, breaking down language barriers so they can share their work with more viewers worldwide, ” Meta posted on its website.
Highlighting the importance of Meta’s AI language translation feature, Instagram Head Adam Mosseri said, “most of the videos on Instagram are in a language you don’t speak, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t interested in them.”
Mosseri then demonstrated Instagram reels auto translate by speaking in Portuguese, Spanish, and Hindi. Last month, Instagram started testing an Instagram Reels-first UI in India and South Korea. The move marked a significant user experience redesign that prioritises short-form video.
Content creators can access the Meta’s AI translation feature at no cost and are free to:
In June 2025, Meta announced plans to automate its entire ad campaign ecosystem with AI by 2026.
The AI-powered translation feature is available to all Instagram public accounts in countries where Meta AI is available. On Facebook, the AI tool is accessible to creators who have 1,000 followers or more. Content creators can leverage Meta AI’s lip sync translation to make their Reels feel authentic.
“Meta AI mimics the sound and tone of a creator’s voice to translate reels, so the end result is content that feels authentically like the creator, just in another language. A creator can also choose to enable the lip syncing feature, which syncs the translated audio to the creator’s mouth’s movements, creating a more natural viewing experience,” Meta added.
Meta AI Reels Translation at a Glance:
Meta allows viewers and creators to decide whether they want to view Reels in the local language or translate them. They can do this by tapping the three-dot menu, selecting audio and language settings, and clicking the “Don’t translate” option.
When uploading Reels, content creators will see the “Translate your voice with Meta AI” option. Those who wish to sync lip movement can also use this option to enable the feature. Creators will be able to track views of their translated Reels by language to determine performance.
Meta AI Reels translation feature works well with face-to-camera videos where creators don’t cover their mouth. The feature can translate a maximum of two speakers at a time. Last month, a report by PWC showed that AI-powered advertising will reshape the global media landscape, driving revenue up to $3.5 trillion by 2029.
