Instagram Stories Get More Intuitive with Meta’s Text-Prompt AI Editing

In Focus

  • Meta has introduced text-based prompts to the Instagram Stories AI editing tools
  • New feature makes its AI photo and video editing tools more intuitive
  • Meta also added preset effects and styles to Instagram

Meta is bringing text-based prompts to the photo and video editing tools within Instagram Stories. The Instagram Stories AI editing tools make creative editing more accessible and intuitive. According to TechCrunch, content creators can use the text-prompts to change, add, or remove sections of videos and photos.

Text-Based Editing Improves User Experience

Meta is working to fully automate advertising with AI tools by 2026. As part of this plan, the social media giant has been offering photo editing capabilities on Instagram for some time.

But the company limited these capabilities to interactions with Meta AI chatbot. Adding text-based prompts to Meta AI editing features on Instagram Stories allows the company to streamline user experience.

To access the new generative AI photo editing Instagram, content creators have to use the “Restyle” menu. From there, they tap the paintbrush icon to select their preferred editing option, which is either to “add”, “change” or “remove”.

For instance, users can enter a text prompt asking Meta AI to:

  • Add an accessory like sunglasses to a photo or a video
  • Change the hair color of a video or photo character
  • Replace background with a sunset

Preset Styles and Effects on Instagram

Meta provides preset effects and styles as part of Instagram Stories AI editing tools. With these features, users can modify image looks and outfits. Some preset options include adding a biker jacket or sunglasses, and changing images with artistic effects like watercolors.

With a single command, users can add visual elements like flames or snow on videos. For videos, users can introduce visual elements like snow or flames with a single command.
To use its AI editing features on Instagram Stories, content creators must agree to its AI Terms of Service.

By doing so, they allow the social media giant to analyze and modify their images and videos, including editing facial features. According to Meta, the terms allow the company to “summarize image contents, modify images, and generate new content based on the image.”

Meta introduces text-based prompts to Instagram Stories AI editing tools months after unveiling AI-powered translation for Facebook and Instagram Reels. This tool helps content creators to expand their viewership by translating content to different languages preserving their tone and style.

Focus on Growing the Meta AI Ecosystem

The latest Instagram restyle and backdrop tools rollout is a major step towards expanding Meta’s AI ecosystem on its social platforms. Recently, the tech giant started testing the “Write with Meta AI”, a new feature that suggests clever Instagram comments to users.

Last month, the social media giant introduced an AI-generated video feed, Vibes, as part of a wider plan to strengthen its content strategy. Data from Similarweb suggests that Vibes helped to boost Meta AI app downloads. By October 17, 2025, daily active users on both Android and iOS had reached 2.7 million, up from 775,000 four weeks prior.

As it rolls out new AI features, Meta has sought to reassure families of the security of children online by taking measures to safeguard minors. Last week, the social media giant expanded parental controls to enable parents to restrict interactions between minors and AI characters.

Meta said parents will be able to disable teen chats with AI characters as well as monitor the kind of conversations they have with its AI chatbot starting 2026.
