The Most Powerful Mate Yet: Huawei Launches the Mate 70 Smartphone
On Tuesday, 26th November 2024, Huawei revealed its latest Huawei Mate 70 smartphone. As per Yahoo Finance, it is a significant step in the comeback of Huawei’s premium smartphones. It also presents Chinese tech giants’ break from U.S. technology.
Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, called the Huawei Mate 70 smartphone “the most powerful Mate phone ever” at an event in Shenzhen. He also said, “The Mate 70 is the first mainstream smartphone to include a satellite paging system, has an improved processor, and runs on Huawei’s own HarmonyOS Next operating system, which together boost performance by 40% compared to previous models.”
Huawei’s Harmony OS Next
As per a report by Reuters, the Trump government may implement new export rules under the CHIPS Act, which may put 200 Chinese companies on a trade blacklist. This move can be implemented as early as this week and will block the access of Chinese companies to U.S. technology.
Huawei rarely talks about its chip advancements during phone launch events, leaving that to teardown firms later. But at the launch of Huawei Mate 70 smartphone, it rolled out the Harmony OS Next. This signifies a major push to software independence since the U.S. curbs made it cut down its ties with Google.
Mate 70 not only marks the beginning of software independence, but it also implies the complete break away from Android and Google.
Huawei Expansion and Market Success
Last week, Huawei said that it has already received 15,000 applications from various app providers to be a part of its Harmony OS ecosystem. It also revealed its plan to expand the ecosystem to 100,000 apps. Moreover, the Chinese tech giant is planning to launch its new AI chip that will challenge Nvidia’s AI chips in the Asian market.
According to market research firm Canalys, Huawei is ranked as the 2nd largest seller of smartphones in the Chinese market for the third quarter of 2024. It sold more than 10 million units straight for the fourth quarter. This marks a huge jump for the company from 4.1 million units in the second quarter of 2022.
A lot of teardown firms say that with Huawei Mate 70 smartphone, Huawei is making its comeback in the smartphone market. The new smartphone is a successor of the Mate 60 series, which were launched in April 2024 and features advanced semiconductor chips made by China’s SMIC.
