Japanese electronics firm Hitachi Limited has partnered with AI firm Anthropic to boost its Lumada 3.0 business model. Under the new partnership, Hitachi will leverage Anthropic’s models to power client services and explore practical ways to apply physical AI in real-world settings.
Why is Hitachi Partnering With Anthropic?
Hitachi is looking to use Claude AI to develop and deploy systems that enhance client productivity across different sectors. These sectors include energy, manufacturing, finance, and transportation.
The partnership brings together Hitachi’s domain knowledge, products, and IT expertise with Anthropic’s frontier AI capabilities. The companies will collaborate to accelerate advancements in system engineering, cybersecurity, and operations across the focus sectors.
“We are very pleased that through this strategic partnership, Hitachi can jointly solve customer and social challenges by combining Anthropic’s highly trusted AI technology with Hitachi’s domain expertise in mission-critical areas and our IT, OT, and product capabilities,” Executive VP and Head of Digital Systems & Services Sector at Hitachi, Jun Abe noted in a statement posted on the company website.
The alliance is expected to advance AI transformation for customers by facilitating safe, resilient, and intelligent operation of mission-critical infrastructure. Anthropic’s physical AI partnership with Hitachi does not include Claude Mythos, the AI model designed to identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
How Will Hitachi Achieve AI Transformation Internally?
Hitachi plans to integrate Claude AI into its operations as part of its efforts to overhaul internal workflows. Hitachi plans to deploy Claude AI across all business processes as part of its long term plan to enhance productivity among its 290,000 global workforce.
Anthropic, which recently agreed to onboard Japan’s largest banks on Claude Mythos by the end of this month, will work with Hitachi to design and execute talent programs. The purpose of these programs is to strengthen the AI capacity of 100,000 professionals. Anthropic already has a similar arrangement with global audit firm, Deloitte.
The Japanese electronics maker considers the internal AI transformation as critical in maximizing the insights and best practices gained to advance its next-generation solutions suite, HMAX by Hitachi. HMAX solutions include Hitachi’s Lumada 3.0 AI model, which is designed to facilitate empowerment of frontline workers.
What Next for Hitachi?
Hitachi plans to set up a cross-regional facility known as the Frontier AI deployment Center to accelerate value for customers. The center, which will span Asia, Europe, and the U.S will initially bring together a workforce of 100 specialists drawn from the two companies.
The new center will serve as a research hub where studies on application of physical AI real-world settings will be conducted. The center will also serve as a co-creation space for physical AI use cases, the deployment of advanced AI technologies and development of next-generation Ai solutions.
