Cybersecurity firm Wiz and Google have cleared the DOJ antitrust hurdle after the regulator said it would end its review of the acquisition, Yahoo Finance reported. The $32 billion deal will be Alphabet’s largest acquisition, bringing Wiz into Google’s cloud division to strengthen its cybersecurity offerings and help businesses manage key risks.
Long Journey to the Google-Wiz Merger
Google and Wiz commenced acquisition talks back in 2024. In July 2024, the talks collapsed after Wiz walked away from a $23 billion deal and opted for an IPO. The two companies resumed acquisition talks in August 2024, leading to the $32 billion acquisition deal.
The companies announced the merger for the first time in March 2025. The Department of Justice (DOJ) commenced an investigation into the deal in June 2025.
Speaking at a Wall Street Journal event, Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport confirmed Google’s regulatory approval for Wiz purchase by the DOJ.
“Definitely, this is an important milestone, but we’re still in the journey between signing and closing,” Assaf Rappaport said.
DOJ antitrust regulators probed the acquisition to determine whether it limits competition. Rappaport added that other regulators continue to review the deal, which Google confirmed.
“We look forward to completing the review process in other jurisdictions. The acquisition of Wiz is expected to close in 2026, subject to customary closing conditions,” a Google spokesperson said.
Impact of DOJ’s Review on Google Wiz Acquisition
The DOJ issued the antitrust clearance on Google’s acquisition pursuant to what it calls early termination. In the U.S., early termination implies that a regulatory review is no longer a hurdle for companies seeking to close merger deals.
Despite this, the timing of DOJ’s decisions remains a challenge because the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said it will not grant early termination of merger reviews during the U.S. government shutdown yet it oversees the process for both itself and the DOJ.

Short-Lived Reprieve for Google
The DOJ’s decision to terminate review of the Wiz acquisition deal offers Google a brief reprieve at a time when it is facing antitrust scrutiny globally.
In the U.S., two judges have separately ruled that Google has monopolized online search and display advertising. In September 2025, the U.S. pushed for the break up of Google’s Adx business as trial on its advertising technology commenced.
The decision to close the DOJ antitrust review on the Google Wiz deal was posted on the Federal Trade Commission’s website and dated October 24, 2025.
