Google Wallet Drops PayPal Support in the U.S. Starting June 13, 2025

Google Wallet users in the U.S. will no longer be able to use PayPal as a payment method starting June 13, 2025. According to The Verge, this officially marks the integration between PayPal and Google Wallet that has existed since 2017. The change was quietly confirmed on a Google Help Center page and first reported by Android Authority.

As of April 11, 2025, users can no longer add new PayPal accounts to their Google Wallet. After June 13, all existing PayPal accounts linked to Google Wallet will be automatically removed.

What This Means for Users

If you currently use PayPal to make payments with Google Wallet, you’ll need to take action soon. Google has advised users to switch to a different payment method to avoid any interruptions. Options include adding a credit card, debit card, or a direct bank account to your Wallet.

Recurring payments that were set up using PayPal in Google Wallet will also stop working. This means you will need to update your payment information for services like subscriptions, bills, or memberships that use PayPal. Google recommends that users go directly to the websites of these services and update their payment methods there.

Google also shared that users won’t be able to view their PayPal transaction history within Google Wallet anymore. If you want to check any past transactions made through PayPal, you will have to log into your PayPal account separately, either through the PayPal app or on their website.

In short, if you’ve been using PayPal to make everyday purchases, it’s important to act soon. Make sure you link another payment method to your Google Wallet to continue using it smoothly.

Exceptions and Future Changes

There is one small exception to this update for those who use a PayPal-branded debit card. These cards will still be accepted through Google Wallet even after PayPal is removed as a direct payment method. So, if you have a PayPal debit card, you can continue using it just like any other debit card inside Google Wallet.

It’s also important to note that this change only applies to users in the United States. According to Google, PayPal will still be available in other regions, such as Germany, where users can continue to use it with Google Wallet. There is no word yet on whether PayPal plans to officially announce this change in the U.S., but users can expect to receive communication from them directly.

While Google hasn’t given an exact reason for this decision, it seems to be part of a bigger shift in how both Google and PayPal are managing their digital payment platforms. Google says it is working to offer more streamlined and rewarding payment options for users. On the other hand, PayPal is introducing new features to its own app, like tap-to-pay on iPhones and group payment tools, which shows it is focusing on improving its own services.

The digital wallet space is quickly changing, with many companies updating their features and tools to stay competitive. As these updates roll out, users should regularly check their settings to avoid service issues.
