- Nano Banana 2 replaces the Nano Banana model launched in August 2025
- The new image generation model offers lightning-fast reasoning speeds
- Google has integrated the model in key products like the Gemini app and Flow
Google has launched Nano Banana 2, its latest AI image generation model. According to Gadgets360, the new model is set to succeed the Nano Banana model, which went viral upon release in August 2025. Also known as Gemini 3.1 Flash image model, Nano Banana 2 is rolling out across multiple Google products, including the Gemini app, Lens features and AI Mode on Search, and Flow.
Nano Banana 2 Offers Faster Speed
Google has touted the new image generation model for its lightning-fast speed in its reasoning, knowledge, and quality output. Nano Banana runs on Gemini’s faster, more affordable Flash models, allowing it to generate and edit images quickly. According to Google, the model is more accurate in following instructions and creating sharp, clear image details.
“With enhanced instruction following, the model adheres more strictly to your complex requests, capturing the specific nuances of your idea so the image you get is the image you asked for,” Google DeepMind Product Manager, Naina Raisinghani noted.
Google added that Nano Banana 2 is now the default image generation model on its video creation platform, Flow. The AI model is accessible to all Flow users with zero credits. DeepMind has also integrated Nano Banana 2 with Google Ads, allowing users to develop banners and marketing campaigns with ease.
In November 2025, Google had to limit Nano Banana Pro usage by free-tier users after usage surged. Free-tier subscribers had previously enjoyed fixed daily limits. The daily limits were replaced with variable caps.
What Capabilities Does Nano Banana 2 Offer?
Google says the model can use Gemini’s advanced knowledge as well as content from online search. These capabilities allow the AI image generation tool to create detailed diagrams, infographics, and data visualizations.
The tool also comes with text rendering and translation capabilities that enable users to generate accurate and legible text, as well as “translate and localize text within an image.”
“Our latest image generation model offers advanced world knowledge, production-ready specs, subject consistency and more, all at Flash speed.” Raisinghani added.
The AI-powered image generation tool is available in 141 countries. In AI Mode in Search, Google Lens, phone and PC browsers, the tool is available in eight new languages. Users can preview Nano Banana on Vertex AI, Gemini API, and AI Studio.
What Nano Banana 2 Means for AI Race
This launch of Nano Banana 2 features is the latest step Google has taken in its push to lead the AI race. After several missteps, the search giant has strengthened its position and is now competing closely with OpenAI. The progress has also boosted investor confidence, sending its stock up 47% over the past six months.
In November 2025, Google’s Gemini 3 release prompted OpenAI to issue a code red alert in a bid to accelerate core ChatGPT performance upgrades. Gemini 3 has increased user engagement significantly, pushing Gemini app monthly active user base past the 750 million mark by the end of December 2025.
