- Google One subscribers access more Gemini features
Google is bringing additional Gemini AI features to its email service, Gmail. The search giant said the new updates will be rolled out in phases. According to CNBC, the new Gmail AI features enable the email platform to suggest responses and summarize emails better.
Some of the AI updates will by default, be turned on in inboxes. This means users who don’t want them would have to opt out.
“When you open an email with dozens of replies, Gmail synthesizes the entire conversation into a concise summary of key points,” Google stated in a blog post.
Free Features in Google’s Gmail AI Update
The U.S. tech giant is offering various free features as part of the Google Gemini Gmail update. The most prominent free update involves adding AI Overviews to Gmail inboxes. On Google Search, AI Overviews appear at the top of search results.
This won’t be the case on Gmail. Instead, the tool will generate AI email summaries in Gmail, highlighting what is most important from email conversations, without requiring users to read every reply. Google recently linked AI Overviews to AI Mode for smoother conversational searches.
Another feature is personalized reply suggestions. Google is rolling out an updated version of its Smart Replies feature. The new version uses smart AI to understand email conversation contexts better and suggest responses in a more personal tone and style.
Gmail users will also have access to Google’s “Help Me Write” feature for free. This feature allows Gmail to draft full emails through a single Gemini prompt. Google adds Gemini AI to Gmail at a time when it is prioritizing monetization of its investment across consumer products like Google TV and other smart home devices.
Google One Subscribers Get More AI Features
Google announced that paid subscribers will have access to more AI features than free subscribers. One of these features is AI Overviews for Gmail Search that allows users to find specific information, even when they’re not sure how to locate it.
With AI Overviews for Gmail Search, users can use natural language to commence a search through their email conversations or online orders. Other AI features that the tech giant is making available to Google One subscribers include the Gmail AI proofreading and reply and AI Inbox.
The AI proofreader reviews grammar, word choice, and sentence structure, while the AI Inbox feature categorizes ‘priority’ and ‘catch me up emails’.
Google Leverages Large Customer Base
With over 3 billion Gmail users, Google is leveraging its huge customer base to stay ahead of AI labs like Anthropic and OpenAI. The tech giant launched its most advanced reasoning model, Gemini 3 Deep Think, in the Gemini app last month.
The U.S. tech giant said AI Overviews and proofreading features will be accessible to Google One Ultra and Pro subscribers in English in America first, with global availability following later. Initially, the AI Inbox will be rolled out to users who are enrolled on Google’s Trusted Tester program.
