- Cameyo supports both legacy and web apps
- Google offers secure browser solution with Cameyo, Chrome Enterprise combination
Google has relaunched its Virtual App Delivery (VAD) solution, now called Cameyo by Google. According to Gadget360, the new solution allows enterprise teams to run Windows or Linux-based apps on Chrome and ChromeOS. The tech giant said that with Cameyo by Google Virtual App Delivery, users can run apps directly in the Chrome browser without relying on virtual desktops.
How Does Cameyo by Google Run Legacy Windows Apps?
Google’s Cameyo VAD enterprise solution is a modern alternative to Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). The main difference between the two is that VDI virtualizes entire desktops while VAD delivers individual apps without full desktop virtualizations. Cameyo is designed to support all types of legacy applications.
The solution either runs in a browser or as Progressive Web Applications (PWAs) to eliminate the overheads associated with virtual desktops.
“Cameyo is not VDI. It is a modern alternative designed specifically to solve the legacy app gap without the overhead of traditional virtual desktops,” Google said in a blog post.
With Google’s Virtual App Delivery solution, enterprises can:
- Deliver legacy apps through VAD while synchronizing apps across the business
- Access specialized tools like AutoCAD, resource planning software side-by-side
- Use legacy apps alongside modern web apps in the browser
Google’s Secure, Enterprise-Ready Browser Solution
Google has combined Cameyo and Chrome Enterprise Premium to provide a secure, enterprise-ready browser solution to users. This solution brings web-based apps and conventional clients to users, making the only tool available to secure web and legacy client-based apps in a browser experience.
“Most enterprise browser solutions share a fundamental blind spot: they are only built to secure web-based SaaS applications. Cameyo by Google and Chrome Enterprise Premium provides a unique solution. This combination is the only solution on the market that delivers and secures both modern web apps and legacy client-based apps within a single, unified browser experience,” Google said.
Chrome Enterprise offers advanced threat detection and URL filtering capabilities. It also offers data loss prevention controls. Cameyo brings legacy apps into this secure environment and unifies the workspace where all controls apply to every app equally.
The Cameyo, Chrome Enterprise combination offers a secure alternative for Windows apps for enterprises seeking to shift from less secure desktop environments. Google is targeting businesses with Cameyo weeks after launching Gemini Enterprise, an AI-powered platform that brings Google AI to every workflow.
Google’s Long-Term Plan
With the latest Cameyo relaunch, the tech giant is luring enterprises into migrating to Google’s enterprise app. Google already added Gemini AI to the Chrome browser. With Gemini AI, Chrome, and Cameyo, Google will bring AI assistance to legacy apps.
The shift from Windows apps to web apps will enable the tech giant to onboard enterprises to its ChromeOS-powered Chromebooks due to shared compatibility.
