Google Adds AI Agents to Gemini App, AI Mode for Smarter Shopping

In Focus

  • Google is introducing AI agentic tools to make shopping easier and faster
  • The tech giant is rolling out the new AI-powered tools in the U.S.
  • New tools are based on updates to Gemini app, AI Mode, and Google Search

Google is seeking to make the online search, comparison, and purchase of products easier and faster with multiple AI-powered shopping tools. The search giant is rolling out the new Google AI shopping tools in the U.S. and expects to make them available in other regions soon.

According to Gadgets360, the new tools are based on improvements made to the Gemini app, AI Mode, and Google Search.

Google Brings AI Agents to Online Shopping

Google’s updates introduce agent tools that can call stores nearby, generate inventory data in real-time, verify prices, and complete purchases on behalf of shoppers. Google’s shopping AI upgrade is aimed at shortening the steps buyers take shopping online or in-store.

“By bringing Gemini models and our Shopping Graph together, you can shop confidently while saving time and money this holiday season,” Google VP for Ads and Commerce Vidhya Srinivasan wrote in a blog post.

Google brings shopping agents to the Gemini app weeks after it added Gemini AI to smart home devices, including the Google Nest Cam, Nest Doorbell, and Home Speaker.

How Do Google’s New AI Shopping Tools Work?

The tech company has expanded Google AI Mode shopping to enable shoppers to describe products in natural language and receive organized results.

The new tools provide users with relevant details, including product images, reviews, comparison tables, inventory data, and prices. Google recently gave AI Mode a visual search upgrade, allowing shoppers to use images and text in a single search.

Additionally, Google is making AI shopping more conversational on the Gemini app. Shoppers in the U.S. can ask the AI-powered app shopping-related questions and get product ideas, comparison charts, and prices from different sources across the web. Google does not display paid results on Gemini yet, but they appear in AI Mode in Search.

Faster In-Store Shopping with AI-Powered Store Calling

Another agentic tool, “Let Google Call,” contacts local outlets to check product availability, promotions, and prices. The tool surfaces when users search for items near them. Google AI prompts users before calling retailers nearby.

“You can save time by asking Google to call stores on your behalf. AI does the work for you, calling to see if stores nearby have what you’re looking for, how much it costs, and if there are any special promos,” Vidhya Srinivasan added.

Google says the AI discloses that it is an automated caller, and merchants can opt out of the call. Users get a summary of each call plus additional inventory data on text or email. The “Let Google Call” feature is powered by Google’s Duplex technology. The company uses Gemini AI models to determine which stores to contact and what questions to ask.
