Google Closes $32 Billion Wiz Merger, Advances Multi-Cloud Security Strategy

In Focus

  • Google finalized the Wiz merger a year after announcing the deal
  • Wiz is set to combine with Google Cloud
  • The startup will continue securing customers across multiple cloud environments

Google has completed its acquisition of cybersecurity startup Wiz. According to TechCrunch, the $32 billion cash deal is Google’s biggest acquisition ever. The tech giant first approached Wiz with a $23 billion offer in 2024.

The startup turned it down, arguing that its business had a bigger growth potential. The two firms rekindled acquisition talks in March 2025. Google acquired Wiz fully a year after it announced the deal.

Plan to Build a Unified Security Platform

Wiz has developed a cloud security platform that protects major cloud environments from cybersecurity threats. For the tech giant, the goal is to integrate Google Cloud with Wiz cybersecurity to build a unified security platform that enables organizations to detect, respond, and prevent threats.

“With this acquisition, we will deliver a unified security platform that simplifies the complex task of protecting multicloud environments in the AI era, making a strong security posture accessible to more companies and governments,” Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian noted.

Google’s $32 billion Wiz acquisition is expected to strengthen security for customers in the AI era and help enhance their overall cybersecurity defenses.

“Keeping people safe online has always been part of Google’s mission. This job is increasingly important today, as more companies and governments move their work to the cloud and broadly use generative AI. By bringing Wiz and Google Cloud together, we’re making it easier for organizations to innovate with confidence,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated.

The two companies cleared the Department of Justice antitrust hurdle in November 2025 after the regulator opted to end its review of the acquisition deal.

Google’s Plan to Attract Enterprise Customers

Increasingly, large enterprises are working across multiple cloud environments. The move to acquire Wiz highlights Google’s multi-cloud security strategy to capture more enterprise clients with a multi-cloud security offering.

While Wiz will combine with Google Cloud, it will retain its brand and commitment to secure customers in different cloud environments. This means Wiz products will be available on major cloud service platforms, including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Oracle Cloud, and Google Cloud.

The combined Google-Wiz cloud security platform is expected to provide tools, policies, and processes across major cloud environments to protect enterprises from cyber threats.

Why Does the Google-Wiz Merger Matter?

Google finalizes the Wiz acquisition deal at a time when vibe coding-related vulnerabilities like prompt-based attacks are on the rise. With companies such as Samsung exploring the possibility of adding vibe coding tools to smartphones, these threats are expected to increase.

Wiz uses AI to strengthen threat detection and investigation across every layer of a cloud environment, from code and infrastructure to runtime. Its cybersecurity tools will be instrumental in curbing security threats associated with vibe coding. The Israeli startup surpassed $1 billion in annual recurring revenue (ARR) in 2025.
