Foxconn has made it clear that the company aims for cooperation with Nissan, rather than acquisition. The Taiwan-based electronics powerhouse, which is famous for putting together Apple’s iPhones, is growing its presence in the electric vehicle (EV) field.
According to Reuters, sources say that Nissan is at a crossroads as the acquisition talks with Honda to make the world’s largest automaker grow complicated due to increasing differences.
Foxconn’s chairman Young Liu told reporters on Wednesday, “The firm will announce a new Japanese customer for its EV contract manufacturing business in the first quarter,” though he did not mention the date of the announcement.
Upon being asked about whether Foxconn will buy Renault’s share in Nissan, Liu said, “If there’s an operational need, we will consider it. But buying the stake isn’t our goal — our goal is cooperation.”
