Anthropic has integrated Claude into Microsoft 365 suite applications. The move makes the AI chatbot accessible in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for eligible users. The AI firm also introduced Claude for Outlook in public beta. Claude Code brings agentic capabilities to Microsoft apps.
How Does Claude AI Work in Microsoft Apps?
In Microsoft apps, Claude can respond to document-related queries and complete actions on pages autonomously. In Excel, the chatbot can generate answers to workbooks, debug errors, update assumptions, complete templates and integrate context from other tools.
“As Claude moves between your Microsoft apps, it carries the full context of your conversation,” Anthropic stated in a post on X.
In Word, Claude AI can support users by editing and formatting text for consistency. The AI chatbot also answers questions about documents, completes templates and reviews and addresses comments. The tool also works in PowerPoint, helping users with creation of new slides, editing, adding chats and diagrams, and iterating existing presentations.
According to Anthropic, only Claude Max, Pro, Enterprise, and Team subscribers can access the AI chatbot in Microsoft 365 apps. The tool is accessible on Mac, Windows, and the web. The AI lab is also making Excel available on iPad. Individuals can download and install the AI code on Microsoft Marketplace. However, enterprise users need administrator activation.

What Can Claude AI Do In Outlook?
Claude Outlook integration allows the AI chatbot to check unread emails and identify those that need attention. The AI tool can draft email responses in the user’s voice and send them.
Other tasks that Claude Outlook can complete include:
- Reading email attachments
- Scheduling meeting
- Generating on-page meeting briefs
- Summarizing long email threads
Unlike other Microsoft apps, Anthropic is currently limiting access to Claude for Outlook to selected users on Windows, Mac, and the web currently. Microsoft integrated Anthropic’s Claude model in Copilot across its suite of workplace tools. Claude subscribers can avoid Copilot fees and integrate the AI chatbot across their Microsoft apps for free.
What Does Claude Mean for Microsoft Copilot?
Anthropic unveiled the integrated experiences within Microsoft apps for the first time in October 2025. The recent Claude AI integration indicates the ongoing partnership between Microsoft and Anthropic.
But some users see the move as detrimental for Microsoft Copilot. In one social media post, a user said “Claude just killed Microsoft Copilot for good”. Copilot uptake has risen in recent months with Microsoft integrating it into 70 products in different categories.
