- Users can disconnect financial accounts at any time
- Over 200 million people currently use ChatGPT for finance assistance
OpenAI has released ChatGPT finance connectors for Pro subscribers in the U.S. The connectors link the chatbot to different finance accounts, offering users personalized responses to finance-related queries. Users can view a visual representation of their savings, spending, investments, and mortgages on a dashboard.
“You can securely connect your financial accounts, see a dashboard of where your money is going, and ask ChatGPT questions grounded in your financial context, all while staying in control of your data,” OpenAI noted on a website post.
How Do ChatGPT Finance Tools Work?
ChatGPT connects with financial accounts to help users manage personal finances. As the chatbot accesses relevant financial data, it builds the right context it needs to customize responses for users and help them plan their finances to meet their goals.
This means users can prompt the chatbot with more complex questions and get relevant responses, without providing financial data every time. According to OpenAI, ChatGPT supports over 12,000 financial institutions across iOS and web platforms. OpenAI’s GPT-5.5 Thinking model will support ChatGPT conversations with connected financial accounts.
This vast network enables users to link their financial data with the chatbot. Plaid, which closed a $575 million funding round in August last year, is currently facilitating secure account linking for OpenAI. The AI developer plans to add Intuit support soon.
Connecting ChatGPT to Financial Accounts
To link ChatGPT to their financial accounts, users are required to go to “Finances” on the sidebar and click on “Get started”. Another way to do this is to enter “@Finances, connect my accounts” in a chat session.
Once the chatbot connects to a financial account, a dashboard is displayed. The dashboard features a real-time view of their spending, investment portfolio, subscriptions, and upcoming payments.
In addition to displaying financial data, ChatGPT finance tools can also:
- Receive tax estimates
- Schedule meetings with local tax experts
- Understand approval odds for credit cards
To ensure privacy and safety, OpenAI is allowing users to disconnect financial accounts any time. The AI developer said synced account data will be removed from its systems within 30 days. Users also have the option of deleting financial information from their chat history.
Who Can Access ChatGPT Finance Features?
OpenAI personal finance features are rolling out to a selected group of eligible users, enabling the AI developer to learn about real-world applications. The company plans to expand the finance tools to all Pro subscribers in the U.S.
“We’re starting with a preview to a smaller group so we can learn from real-world use, improve the experience, and expand thoughtfully,” the AI company added.
The AI developer said, over 200 million people currently use ChatGPT for investment and budgeting assistance. According to the AI firm, the new ChatGPT finance tools give users control over their data.
