Apple Reportedly Plans to Power Siri Upgrade with Gemini AI

In Focus

  • Apple could launch a revamped Siri in 2026
  • New Siri version will likely be powered by Gemini AI
  • Upgraded Siri is expected to feature AI-powered web search

Apple reportedly plans to launch a revamped version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence in 2026. According to Gadget360, Apple’s Siri AI upgrade 2026 might be powered partly by Gemini AI.

Apple first unveiled the revamped version of Siri in 2024 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The upgraded version is expected to come with new AI-powered web search features.

Google is Building Custom Gemini AI for Apple

Google is reportedly building a customized Gemini AI model for Apple. The AI model will run on Apple’s cloud infrastructure and boost the capabilities of its AI voice assistant.

Prior to commencing the Apple Google Gemini partnership, Apple considered Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google as options for building a smarter AI voice assistant.

While Anthropic models performed better than Google’s, the tech giant found that powering Apple Siri with the Gemini AI model made better financial sense.

Apple and Google have an existing search partnership where the search giant pays Apple to make its search engine the default option on iPhones. However, the collaboration between the two tech giants does not imply that Siri will adopt all Gemini features available on Android devices.

“It just means Siri will be powered by a model that can actually provide the AI features that users expect, all with an Apple user interface”, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman noted.

When Will Apple Release the New Siri with Gemini AI Support?

Apple is expected to release the new Siri update with Apple Intelligence in March 2026. The Siri update will likely align with Apple’s launch of iOS 26.4 and smart home displays, including upgraded versions of HomePod mini and Apple TV.

Apple showcased Siri’s new abilities during the WWDC 2024 event. These include on-screen awareness, cross-app actions, and context understanding. Actualization of these features would give the voice assistant capabilities to control the iPhone hands-free as Apple intended.

Currently, Siri relies on ChatGPT to respond to complex user queries after Apple unveiled AI preview. The company is competing against a growing number of AI startups.

Apple’s Next Plan

Apple is reportedly planning to unveil iOS 27, macOS 27, and iPadOS 27 among others at the WWDC 2026 event. The new versions will likely highlight Apple’s AI strategy, which includes Apple Intelligence.

Apple is planning to launch several other products as it marks 50 years of existence. These products include the first foldable iPhone, which could be unveiled in the September 2026 event. The phone will reportedly be powered by the C2 chip developed in-house by Apple as opposed to the Qualcomm modem.
