After avoiding large acquisitions for a significantly long time, Apple has acquired MotionVFX. According to TechCrunch, MotionVFX offers plug-ins, visual effect tools, and templates that work with Apple’s video editing software, Final Cut Pro.

Helping Video Editors to Create Quality Videos

The Apple MotionVFX deal is expected to enhance the ability of video designers and editors to generate quality assets. Although the terms of the deal were not disclosed, MotionVFX expressed confidence in its buyout by the iPhone maker.

“We are extremely excited to share that MotionVFX is joining Apple. For over 15 years, we’ve been on a mission to create world-class, visually inspiring content and effects for video editors. From the very beginning, we’ve been all about quality, ease of use, and great design. These are also the values that we admire most in Apple’s products, and we’re thrilled to be able to embrace them together,” MotionVFX stated on its website.

In the past, Apple has acquired numerous startups for their talent and technology that can be integrated into existing products. In January 2026, the tech giant acquired an Israeli startup Q AI to enhance its audio technology capabilities. The acquisition highlighted Apple’s ongoing commitment to invest in AI-driven innovations.

Deal Brings MotionVFX Tools to Final Cut Pro

Founded in 2009, MotionVFX offers professional-grade video editing tools, templates, and graphics at a cost of $29 per month. The subscription service allows users to edit videos inside Final Cut Pro, which is among the best video editing software for Mac.

By acquiring MotionVFX, Apple will now integrate its video editing tools directly into Final Cut Pro, instead of relying on third-party extensions. Apple already offers a subscription service that gives users access to six creative apps and premium content via iWork apps. The tech giant offers this service through Creator Studio, which launched in January 2025.

The Creator Studio bundle includes access to Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro, and Pixelmator Pro on iPad and Mac. It also includes Compressor, Motion, and Mainstage on Mac, as well as premium content for Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. To access the service, users pay a monthly subscription fee of $12.99 or $129 annually.

What the MotionVFX Deal Means for Apple

Apple’s move to acquire MotionVFX is expected to boost its efforts to attract more subscribers to Creator Studio. The move is expected to help the iPhone maker compete better with other video design and editing platforms like Adobe Premiere Pro, the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, and Google’s Nano Banana AI model.

In recent years, Apple’s services business has grown to become a major revenue driver for the company. In the last financial year, the business accounted for more than 26% of Apple’s total revenue. This represented a significant increase from the 8.5% reported in 2015. The services business includes subscriptions such as Apple Music, iCloud, and app bundles.
