Anthropic Brings Claude to Indian Servers in Renewed Enterprise AI Push

Anthropic is enhancing data residency in India in a renewed push to expand its influence in the country. The company said that in the coming weeks, Claude will support in-country inference in India via Amazon Bedrock, which is the AWS platform for developing AI applications and agents at scale.
Why is Anthropic Expanding Claude Inference to India?
Anthropic’s decision to bring Claude to Indian servers is aimed at complying with the country’s data residency regulations. The move is also aimed at enabling enterprises in highly regulated sectors to adopt generative AI.
Running Claude’s inference infrastructure within India will give enterprises greater control over their data. It makes it easier for governments and companies in banking and insurance sectors to move from AI testing to deployment.
“Bringing Claude inference to India is a turning point for enterprise AI in this country. India’s banks, insurers, telecoms, public and government agencies steward the data of a billion people. When that data can stay in India, AI moves from pilots into the systems that matter most,” Anthropic’s Managing Director for India, Irina Ghose said as cited by India Today.
Indian banks welcomed Anthropic’s Claude expansion in India. The banks said the move saying bringing “trusted frontier AI closer home is a positive step for the ecosystem” as organizations explore ways to deploy the technology to customers responsibly.” Anthropic introduces in-country inference to India weeks after it localized Claude AI pricing in the country.
Why India Matters to Anthropic
India is one of Claude AI’s largest markets. Developers and enterprises in the country are increasingly adopting the AI model. According to Anthropic, many companies in India have been seeking local access to Claude to comply with the country’s data governance requirements.
India also recorded one of the highest sign-ups following the global launch of the Claude Partner Network in March 2026. A growing number of local partners have since joined Anthropic’s Global Premier, Preferred, and Select tiers. The AI firm opened an office in Bengaluru in February to better serve the country. Since then, Anthropic has expanded its operations across India.
“Adding in-country inference marks a significant step forward in what we are building here, a growing local team, strong performance in Indian languages, and partnerships that put this technology to work for India,” Ghose added.
Anthropic, which unveiled Claude Science last month, is partnering with Indian government agencies, public health programs, and research institutions that handle sensitive data that cannot leave the country. For such entities, in-country inference provides a safe way to process such data while complying with local regulations.
In-Country Inference Positions Anthropic for Growth
By introducing in-country inference in India, Anthropic is eliminating a major barrier to enterprise AI adoption and strengthening its position in one of its fastest-growing markets. Keeping customer data within India’s borders means the company can better serve banks, insurers, government agencies, and other regulated industries that face strict data residency requirements.
The rollout also aligns Claude with India’s evolving AI and data governance landscape. This gives Anthropic an opportunity to expand its enterprise customer base and compete more effectively in the country’s rapidly growing AI market.
