Anthropic Broadens Access to Claude’s Premium Features As AI Race Intensifies

In Focus

  • Free-tier subscribers will be able to use four paid features
  • These features were previously available to Pro and Max plan subscribers
  • The decision gives all Claude code users access to Anthropic’s agentic capabilities

AI firm Anthropic has enhanced its free-tier plan with multiple paid features, Gadgets360 reported. Anthropic added premium Claude features to the free plan to give users access to AI features previously accessible to Pro and Max plan subscribers. The decision brings File Creation, Connectors, Skills, and Compaction tools to all subscribers.

Free-Tier Users to Experience Claude’s Agentic Capabilities

Claude users will have access to a tool called Connectors. Supported by Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), Connectors allows Claude to integrate seamlessly with third-party apps and data hubs like Slack, Notion, and Google Drive.

With this integration, users can retrieve data and complete tasks within the app. Connectors will bring Claude’s agentic capabilities to free plan subscribers. Additionally Claude file creation feature makes it easy for users to create and download standalone files within the chatbot’s interface.

Instead of providing raw texts, the AI system organizes and structures data into relevant formats like pdf, csv, and .py. The feature is designed to generate and export ready-to-use assets in specific formats.

Some of the files that users will be able to create using the File creation feature include documents, spreadsheets, and code scripts. Anthropic offers premium Claude features to free-tier users as it seeks to expand enterprise AI leadership.

New Features Bring Conversation Summary Capabilities

The Compaction tool, which enables users to summarize long conversations, will also be available to free-tier subscribers. With the Claude Compaction summary tool, users can get a clear context of previous conversations to enable them to continue with chats or projects seamlessly.

Free-tier subscribers will also be able to use the Skills feature in Claude. This tool features custom instructions and a knowledge base. Using Skill, Claude subscribers will be able to develop new skills or use existing ones on the AI platform to boost their understanding of the chatbot on the role. The Skills tool keeps users from prompting the Claude AI assistant multiple times when instructing it how to respond or behave.

Anthropic launched Claude Code on the web for Pro and Max subscribers in October 2025. With Claude Code on the web, app developers can design and manage multiple AI coding agents from their browser.

Anthropic’s Competition With OpenAI

Anthropic brings the Claude paid features to free-tier subscribers at a time when OpenAI has started testing ads on ChatGPT in free and lower-cost ChatGPT plans. OpenAI’s ad update triggered discussions among users, prompting a reaction from the AI companies.

Anthropic ran high-profile ads during the Super Bowl in a bid to emphasize that Claude would maintain its ad-free status. Later, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said his company does not intend to place its most powerful tools behind a paywall. Anthropic appears to be responding by giving free-tier subscribers access to its previously paid features.
