Amazon has launched new features in its Amazon Pharmacy app that allow caregivers to help manage medications for their loved ones. According to Yahoo Finance, the app now includes a way to handle prescriptions through your own Amazon accounts, giving you more control and flexibility. These Amazon Pharmacy Caregiver Features are designed to make medicine management simpler and safer for families. The update also adds benefits for Medicare Part D users.
Amazon says that these changes are based on customer feedback. The company also announced that its PillPack feature, which sends pre-sorted medication packets, is now available to more users.
Amazon’s new update to the Pharmacy app focuses on improving support for caregivers. These Amazon Pharmacy Caregiver Features let aging patients invite a trusted family member or friend to manage their prescriptions. Once added, caregivers can place orders, check prescription details, and handle medication schedules 24/7 using their own Amazon accounts.
This makes it easier for people caring for elderly family members, especially those managing many prescriptions. According to Amazon’s press release, a report by AARP found that one in five adults in the U.S. is taking care of an aging family member. These new tools are designed to support those caregivers.
“Amazon Pharmacy’s new caregiver feature provides a secure, streamlined way for trusted individuals to help manage prescriptions and place orders 24/7, when and where convenient for them—all through their own Amazon accounts,” said Tess Carey, a senior pharmacist at Amazon Pharmacy. “This ensures medications arrive on time, giving both caregivers and patients greater peace of mind.”
The app also now allows Medicare Part D members to access PillPack. This service sends customers pre-sorted packs of medicines, grouped by the time of day they need to take them. It’s a helpful feature for people who find it hard to remember which pill to take and when.
“Whether you’re a caregiver juggling multiple prescriptions for an aging parent, or a customer who could benefit from the convenience of pre-sorted packets delivered reliably each month, we’re removing barriers and making pharmacy work better for you,” said John Love, Vice President of Amazon Pharmacy.
Amazon is also expanding its same-day prescription delivery service. Currently, this service is available in major U.S. cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle. The company plans to offer it in at least 20 cities by 2025, including Boston, Philadelphia, Dallas, Minneapolis, and San Diego.
This new service is only for Amazon Prime members. It is part of Amazon’s goal to improve the entire pharmacy experience by making it faster and more convenient.
Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, shared more updates during a recent meeting with shareholders. He highlighted other health tools such as the One Medical app, which allows patients to schedule doctor visits, view health records, and get treatment for ongoing health issues.
Jassy also talked about RxPass, another benefit for Prime members. For just $5 a month, members get unlimited access to 60 common medications. This includes quick delivery and 24/7 pharmacy support.
“We are changing this customer experience that people have had to endure on the pharmacy side for a really long time. We’re changing it very significantly,” Jassy said.
