Air India Introduces Apple AirTag Tracking to Help Passengers Locate Lost Bags

Losing your luggage while traveling can be stressful. To make baggage tracking easier, Air India has integrated Apple AirTag for the passengers to track their luggage. This new feature allows travelers to use Apple AirTags to keep track of their bags in real- time, adding an extra layer of security and peace of mind.

According to Indian Express, Air India has claimed that it is the first airline in Asia to provide AirTag tracking feature to passengers. Customers can access their luggage information by adding their flight information in the “My Trips” section of the Air India app on their Apple devices. The company said that the passengers can also track their luggage by scanning the barcode on their checked in bags.

Dr Satya Ramaswamy, Chief Digital & Technology Officer, Air India, said in a statement, “As we transform into a world-class global airline, we are excited to offer our guests an innovative option to help locate their baggage in case it does not arrive at the destination on schedule.”

How Air India Baggage Tracking Works with AirTag

With the introduction of Air India baggage tracking using Apple AirTags, passengers can now monitor their luggage directly from there iPhone. Apple’s AirTag is a small, Bluetooth-enabled tracking device that connects to the Find My app, helping users locate lost or misplaced items.

By placing an AirTag inside their luggage, Air India passengers can easily track their bags throughout their journey. This feature is especially useful for travelers who want to ensure their luggage has been loaded onto the correct flight and arrives at the destination safely.

In case assengers’ luggage does not arrive at the conveyor belt, after you have landed, here are the steps that you should follow, according to Air India:

  1. File a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) for the baggage at Air India’s Baggage Counter at the airport
  2. Generate the ‘Share Item Location’ in the ‘Find My’ app on your Apple device.
  3. Share the location link with Air India on the mobile app by clicking on Baggage; Lost and Found Check-in Baggage. Paste the AirTag link here.
  4. On Air India’s Customer Support Portal page, click on Lost and Found Check-in Baggage > Share Item Location. Provide the AirTag link along with your PIR number.

Air India said, “ Following this, guests will receive an acknowledgment email from Air India with a link to check baggage status.” Then, the AirTag link is to be shared with the airline’s ground staff as it will help them in locating the luggage and returning it to the passengers.

The flight carrier said, “For ensuring privacy and security, location sharing will automatically end as soon as a guest is reunited with their bag or automatically expires after seven days. It can also be stopped by the guest at any time.”
