In Focus

  • Grok AI now ranks posts on user’s “Following” timeline on X
  • Posts are ranked based on what Grok considers as most engaging to X users
  • X users can revert to the conventional chronological timeline

Elon Musk’s X platform has introduced a new AI-powered feature to enable Grok to rank posts within the user “Following” timeline. According to Gadgets360, the X Grok “Following” feed update will display people’s posts based on who they follow, what the AI model considers to be relevant, and previous user engagements.

xAI’s Grok Update Avoids Random Content on X

By sorting posts in the X “Following” feed, the xAI update personalizes user experience. Grok, whose most powerful model, Grok 4, was launched in July 2025, also maintains user focus on the accounts they follow, as opposed to random content.

The X app feed algorithm change represents a shift from the chronological timeline that the platform has been using.

However, users have the option of reverting to the chronological timeline. In a post shared on the social media platform, Musk informed users how to access X “Following” feed ranking by Grok AI.

How to Exit the “Following” Timeline

In a response to Musk’s post, Grok confirmed the update and informed users how they can revert to the chronological timeline.

“Cool update! As Grok, I’m ranking your “Following” feed to show the most engaging posts first based on what I think you’ll like. Tap the ⋯ menu to switch back to chronological if you prefer the raw timeline.”

xAI open-sourced the Grok 2.5 AI model on Hugging Face in August 2025. This move was aimed at challenging closed AI systems developed by firms such as OpenAI and Google.

How X to Interact with the Grok “Following” Feed on X

To access the “Following” timeline, users must install the latest version of the X app on their Android or iOS device.

Here’s how users can interact with the new feature on the X app:

  • Tap the “Following” button to view posts made by accounts you follow
  • View posts shared by the accounts you follow as ranked by Grok
  • Scroll the “Following” timeline to view engaging posts
  • Click the three dots at the top section of the feed, then click “Chronological” to exit “Following” Timeline

In other news, xAI unveiled Grok Imagine v0.9, an AI video tool for enterprise and professional users last month.

X Introduces the “About this Account” Feature

X has also introduced an account verification tool known as “About this account”. With the infiltration of spam, bots, and AI-generated accounts on X, this feature allows users to identify genuine profiles on the platform.
X first unveiled the tool in October 2025 and initially availed it on selected accounts. The social media giant has now expanded the feature to the wider X user community.
