Tata Electronics and Bosch Sign MoU to Strengthen India’s Chip Manufacturing

Tata Electronics and Robert Bosch GmbH have entered into a strategic partnership to strengthen India’s capabilities in semiconductor packaging and testing. Tata Electronics said that the two companies recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to co-develop solutions for automotive and industrial chips, marking a new chapter in India’s efforts to build a robust local chip ecosystem.

The agreement comes at a time when countries around the world are focusing on semiconductor self-reliance and building stronger supply chains, especially for automotive components and electronics. For Bosch, this partnership supports its push to localize production and capitalize on the growing demand for automotive electronics in India.

The two companies will also look at working together on Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) for automotive electronics, alongside semiconductor manufacturing. This includes finding and collaborating on India-based projects that offer value to both sides.

Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO and MD of Tata Electronics, said, “We are excited to partner with Bosch to help create a robust and reliable supply chain for key technology products. This partnership is well-aligned with our commitment to help create a holistic semiconductor and electronics ecosystem in India, with offerings that resonate with customers around the world. Most importantly, our collaboration is yet another significant step towards creating a leadership position for the Indian electronics manufacturing sector on the global stage.

Bosch Partner for Semiconductor Growth in India

Bosch will act as a key partner for semiconductor innovation under this joint initiative. The company brings decades of expertise in chip design and automotive-grade reliability standards.

Dirk Kress, Executive Vice President of Semiconductor Operations at Robert Bosch GmbH said, “Bosch recognises the increasing demand for advanced automotive electronics and their critical role in shaping the future of mobility. To address the growing needs and foster supply chain resilience, Bosch is pleased to foster partnership with Tata Electronics, a key player and innovation leader in the Indian market. This move signifies Bosch’s and Tata Electronics’ commitment to local collaboration and acknowledges the strategic importance of the burgeoning automotive sector in India.”

On the other hand, Tata Electronics has been rapidly expanding its footprint in the semiconductor supply chain, especially in chip assembly and testing. The MoU between Tata Electronics and Bosch for semiconductors sets the stage for a long-term partnership aimed at building both capacity and capability within India.

Focus on Automotive and Industrial Chip

The partnership comes at a time when demand for automotive and industrial chips is surging globally. From electric vehicles to smart factories, chips are now core to innovation and safety. Bosch’s deep understanding of automotive-grade standards will help guide the development of advanced testing frameworks.

Tata Electronics, meanwhile, is expected to provide the infrastructure and workforce needed to execute these plans at scale. The companies may jointly explore establishing a facility for this purpose, though no specific details have been released yet.

As the Tata Electronics and Bosch partnership unfolds, it could pave the way for India to become not just a consumer of semiconductors but a serious global contender in their development and manufacturing.
