Amazon Enters India’s Diagnostics Market with Home Lab Test Services

E-commerce giant Amazon has made a significant move into India’s healthcare sector by launching its diagnostic services, as reported by The Hindu. Amazon India on Sunday (June 22, 2025) announced its entry into the diagnostics segment, completing its suite of healthcare services. The new at-home diagnostics offering allows users to book lab tests, schedule and track appointments, and access digital reports directly through the Amazon app.

Jayaramakrishnan Balasubramanian, Category Leader, told The Hindu, “Diagnostics closes the outpatient loop by connecting testing with doctor consultation and medicine delivery, all of which can be accessed through the Amazon app.

Amazon Home Diagnostics Service Goes Live

Amazon’s new home diagnostics service is now available across six major Indian cities. The service is offered in collaboration with Orange Health Labs and will be available in Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, covering over 450 PIN codes. This strategic launch represents Amazon’s deeper commitment to the Indian healthcare market.

Mr. Balasubramanian said, “With Amazon Pharmacy, customers get an access to a wide range of prescription medications and healthcare essentials, along with a free telemedicine consultation service and delivery benefits for Prime and non-Prime members.

He also added, “Amazon Clinic enables customers to consult licensed doctors for a range of primary healthcare needs through a seamless digital experience.

Revolutionary Amazon Medical Tests Service

Amazon’s medical tests service brings laboratory-quality testing directly to customers’ doorsteps. The platform has been designed with user convenience in mind, making medical testing as simple as ordering any other product online.

Customers can receive routine test reports in as little as six hours, which is remarkably fast compared to traditional diagnostic services. This speed can be crucial for patients who need quick results for medical consultations or treatment decisions.

Mr. Balasubramanian said, “The addition of Diagnostics brings lab testing into the same continuum of care. With all three services now integrated, a connected outpatient journey, from consultation to testing is offered in the single interface on Amazon Medical in a full stack health model.”

Home Lab Tests India Market Expansion

The launch of Amazon’s home lab tests in India shows a significant shift in how diagnostic services are delivered. The traditional model of visiting diagnostic centers is being challenged by this convenient home-based approach.

Amazon’s entry into this space comes at a time when home healthcare services are gaining popularity. The pandemic accelerated the adoption of home-based medical services, and this trend continues to grow among Indian consumers.

Despite the presence of established players like Tata 1mg and PharmEasy in online pharmacies, and Practo in virtual consultations, Amazon Medical believes the market still holds significant untapped potential. Mr. Balasubramanian told The Hindu, “The market is largely fragmented. There are several established players however it not about speed but about how your ecosystem is built.”

How to Use Amazon Book Lab Tests Online

Users can easily book Amazon’s lab tests online through the company’s existing platform. The process has been integrated seamlessly with giant’s familiar interface, making it simple for existing customers to access diagnostic services.

The booking system allows customers to schedule sample collection at their preferred time slots. This flexibility is particularly valuable for working professionals and elderly patients who may find it difficult to visit diagnostic centers during regular hours.

Digital reports are delivered securely, ensuring patient privacy while providing easy access to results. This digital-first approach aligns with modern healthcare practices and patient expectations.

Amazon’s diagnostic service launch is part of building a broader medical platform in India. With this addition, Amazon has now integrated its existing pharmacy and clinic services, creating a more comprehensive healthcare ecosystem.

Mr. Balasubramanian stated, “For Pharmacy, we get lot of orders even from Tier two and three towns. We work with multiple accredited sellers having over twenty-five warehouses and licensed pharmacies. When the order is received, the seller ships it, and Amazon delivers it to customer.”
