An Essar Group venture, GreenLine Mobility recently announced the investment of $275 million in equity to fund green transition in the Indian heavy trucking industry. The project targets road logistics carbon emissions which accounts for 15% of India’s carbon footprint. According to Indian Express, Nikhil Kamath, founder of Zerodha and a leading has also invested $20 million in GreenLine towards the transformation of India’s green logistics.
Nikhil Kamath, Investor and Entrepreneur has said, “The logistics industry needs to evolve—faster, cleaner, and smarter. Green mobility isn’t just a trend; it’s the inevitable future. Backing GreenLine is a bet on that future, where sustainability and efficiency go hand in hand. More companies need to take the leap, adopt green tech, and rethink how we move goods at scale. This shift is happening—with or without you.”
GreenLine’s $275 million investment aims to reduce carbon emissions in Indian transportation which makes up roughly 15% of national emissions. The funding supports the installation of 10,000 LNG and EV trucks so the initiative can create a nation-wide network with 100 LNG stations and 100 EV charging stations and battery swapping facilities.
GreenLine’s fleet consists of more than 650 LNG trucks, which combined have travelled in excess of 38 million kilometres, cutting approximately 10,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. It transports products in the FMCG, e-commerce, metals and mining, cement, oil and gas, and chemicals sectors.
Anand Mimani, CEO, GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd. has said, “GreenLine has been at the forefront of decarbonising India’s heavy trucking industry, making significant progress from the very start. As leaders in this space, this investment brings us even closer to our vision of transforming India’s road logistics sector. We request India Inc. to embrace this evolving landscape and actively support the transition towards a greener and more sustainable future for all.”
India’s road logistics sector, with over 4 million trucks in operation, remains one of the most carbon-intensive industries. GreenLine’s initiative aligns with the Indian government’s ambitious goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070. By offering logistics services at cost parity with diesel trucks, GreenLine ensures that customers can reduce carbon emissions without incurring additional costs.
Anshuman Ruia, Director at Essar, highlighted that this investment is an opportunity to build a green mobility ecosystem and invest in clean energy sources to power electric trucks. This integrated approach aims to significantly reduce emissions, cut down on energy imports, and help drive India towards a more sustainable, energy-secure future.
A crucial advancement toward India’s sustainable transportation takes shape through the 2025 GreenLine funding initiative supported by multiple investor contributors. GreenLine, backed by Essar, has positioned itself as a leading force to enhance the logistics sector through nationwide distribution of efficient sustainable transport solutions.
